March 27, 2006 - Hastings College to host Claudia Stevens

Hastings College will host artist Claudia Stevens who will present “An Evening with Madame F” in a one-woman theatre performance, Wednesday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m., in French Memorial Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public. Stevens’ performance will explore the life and death experience of music performance in concentration camps. She will incorporate music played and sung by women musicians at Auschwitz and will also relate first-hand accounts. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, Stevens meditates on the issue of treating the Holocaust as the subject for artistic expression and ethical questions. From Richmond, Va., Stevens draws on her background as a concert pianist, actress and classical vocalist. Since 2001, she has toured and performed across the United States. Stevens’ visit is sponsored by the college’s Artist Lecture Series and the college’s Vocation and Values Program.
