National Symphony Orchestra to perform in Hastings, March 29

Nine members of the National Symphony Orchestra, in residence at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., will present “An Evening of Chamber Music,” as a part of their state residency tour. The free concert will be Wednesday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m., at the Masonic Center Auditorium, 610 N. Hastings Ave., Hastings. Neb. This is the only performance of the ensemble in out-state Nebraska, and the public is invited to attend. Performing will be harpist Dotian Levalier, flutist Alice Kogan Weinreb, oboist William Wielgus, violinists Elisabeth Adkins and Paula Sisson Akbar, violist Nancy Thomas-Weller, cellist Mark Evans, principal clarinetist Loren Kitt, and trumpeter Thomas Cupples. Also on Wednesday, ensemble members will present an educational outreach program and participate in a panel discussion at Hastings College. Levalier, Weinreb and Wielgus will present a program for area elementary students titled “Meet the Harp.” At 2 p.m., in Perkins Auditorium, Fuhr Hall of Music. At 3 p.m., the three musicians will participate in a panel discussion, “Careers in Music,” regarding life as professional musicians. Hastings College students and area high school students are invited. This will also take place in Perkins Auditorium. The National Symphony Orchestra’s Nebraska residency tour is sponsored by the Lied Center Outreach Program, the Hastings College Department of Music, Hastings Masonic organizations, the Nebraska Arts Council, the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Nebraska Legislature.
