October 28, 2005 - Hastings College president selected for NMEA award

Hastings College president Dr. Phil Dudley was selected as Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA) Outstanding School Administrator for 2005. Dudley was nominated by students who are members of the Hastings College chapter of Music Educators National Conference (MENC).

Hastings College president Dr. Phil Dudley was selected as Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA) Outstanding School Administrator for 2005. Dudley was nominated by students who are members of the Hastings College chapter of Music Educators National Conference (MENC).
Dudley will receive his award at the NMEA Conference annual awards banquet, Friday, Nov. 18, at The Cornhusker Hotel, Lincoln, Neb. Also receiving awards will be two Hastings College alumni. Jen Bates-Orvis ’97, Bellevue, Neb., will be named Nebraska Young Music Educator, and Don Reimer ’73, Bellevue, Neb., will be named to the NMEA Hall of Fame.
Dudley, who has been president of Hastings College since 2000, is the first university/college administrator to receive this award. The award was previously presented to public school administrators.
Fourteenth president of the college, Dudley has served the institution since 1973. He joined the faculty as an assistant professor of economics and business, then in 1979 was named assistant to the president. In 1982, in became vice president of the college and secretary to the Board of Trustees.
A native of Cheney, Kan., Dudley received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and business/economics at Southwestern College, Winfield, Kan. He earned a master’s degree in economics at Wichita State University, Wichita, Kan., and a doctoral degree in economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
In June, Dudley was cited for the prestigious Ralph S. Brown Award for Shared Governance by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) in recognition of outstanding contributions to shared governance on a college campus.
Dudley’s community involvement includes the United Way Board of Directors, Mary Lanning Health Care Foundation Board of Directors, Hastings Area Education Consortium, Hastings Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, and the Nebraska Educational Television Council for Higher Education Board of Directors.
