October 10, 2005 - Hastings College Homecoming royalty announced
October 10, 2005 - Juniors Emily Hogan, Aurora, Colo., and Brandon Diamond, Kansas City, Mo., were named Homecoming king and queen at Hastings College, Friday, Oct. 7, at a special coronation dinner on campus. Royalty were selected by a vote of the student body. Juniors Celeste Bauer, Alma, Neb., and Thomas Kluver, Fairfield, Neb., were named prince and princess. The couples presided over the 55th Melody Round-up Parade in downtown Hastings and the football game. Emily Hogan, daughter of Ron Hogan and Libby Saunders, Aurora, Colo., is a media production-broadcast major. A Student Alumni Ambassador, she is Taylor Hall secretary, is a member of IGNITE and Campus Crusade, and is advertising manager for the Collegian newspaper. Hogan is a producer, director and crew member for HCTV 6 and works with HCworldnews.com. President of Alpha Omega social sorority, she previously was pledge trainer. Brandon Diamond, son of Anthony and Theresa Locke, Kansas City, Mo., is a business major. A member of the track team, he placed fourth in the national outdoor meet in the long jump and triple jump. He also holds the school record in the long jump. Diamond is a member of Men’s Choir and has participated in theatre. He is a Student Association senator for Bronco Village Apartments and was involved with KFKX radio station his freshman year. Diamond is a member of the Student Association executive council and serves on the capital improvements and student affairs council committees. Celeste Bauer, daughter of Crale and Jill Bauer, Alma, Neb., is a marketing major. An outside hitter for the volleyball team, she was named third team All-American. Bauer is a member of Phi Beta Lambda business club and Chi Omega Psi social sorority. On the Dean’s List, she is a Student Association senator, representing on-campus housing, and coaches YMCA volleyball. Thomas Kluver, son of Steve and Sue Kluver, Fairfield, Neb., is an English and media production major. He is a member of Public Relations Council and served on the New Student Days committee. He is a member of the Hastings College Choir and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity. For two years, he participated in Majesty Handbell Choir. A member of the forensics team, he was selected outstanding freshman. On the Dean’s List, he was named Alpha Chi academic honor society Freshman of the Year. Kluver is a youth group sponsor for First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. Other finalists for King were: Patrick Johnston, Thedford, Neb.; Tim Moore, Wichita Falls, Texas; and Danny Nicklin, Papillion, Neb. Other finalists for Queen were: Beth Eager, Ashland, Neb., Tiffany Mayland, Alliance, Neb.; and Ann Phelps, Hastings, Neb. Queen finalists: Beth Eager, daughter of Jack and Carol Eager, Ashland, Neb., is a psychology major. A member of Public Relations Council, she is a Student Alumni Ambassador, a member of Common Grounds fellowship group, and a member of Hastings College Child Defenders. Eager is involved with HCworldnews.com, on HCTV 6, is a member of Dance Team, and participates in theatre. Tiffany Mayland, daughter of Rich and Denise Mayland, Alliance, Neb., is a biopsychology major. On the Dean’s List, she is a member of Public Relations Council, Alpha Chi academic honor society, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and PHIVE-O (Peer HIV Education Organization). Mayland is secretary for Psi Chi psychology honor society and secretary for Alpha Phi Sigma social sorority. A resident assistant, she serves on the Hastings Family Planning board. Ann Phelps, daughter of Doug and Diane Phelps, Hastings, Neb., is a theology and arts major. On the Dean’s List, she is a Student Alumni Ambassador, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society, and is a Student Association senator and secretary. Previously a residence hall officer, council member and resident assistant, Phelps participates in Alpha Omega social sorority. A member of the Hastings College Choir, she participates in Chapel Band and performed in Music Theatre Ensemble. As a freshman, Phelps had a lead role in the theatre production “Children of Eden.” King finalists: Patrick Johnston, son of Jack and Gail Johnston, Thedford, Neb., is an advertising major. A member of Beta Chi social fraternity, he is a writer for the Collegian newspaper, works for HCTV 6, and is sports talent announcer for KFKX radio. On the Dean’s List, Johnson is a member of residence hall council and is a residence hall officer. He participates in CHASE and IGNITE ministries. Tim Moore, son of Paul and Becky Moore, Wichita Falls, Texas, is a media production and religion major. He is involved with HCworldnews.com, HCTV 6, and last year, worked for KFKX radio. On the Dean’s List, he is a member of Campus Crusade, and participates in CHASE and IGNITE ministries. A member of Beta Chi social fraternity, he is a residence hall assistant. Moore received a Golden Leaf Award for media last year, and as a freshman, was involved in Hastings College Band and Hastings College Choir. Danny Nicklin, son of Don and Rhonda Nicklin, Papillion, Neb., is a media production major. Editor-in-chief of the Collegian newspaper, he is sports director for KFKX radio and is a member of Beta Chi social fraternity. On the Dean’s List, Nicklin participates in Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Last year, he served on the Altman Hall council and was a Student Association senator representing Altman Hall. This year, Nicklin is a senator representing communications arts. Other candidates nominated in preliminary voting were: Renee Faimon, daughter of Russell and Donna Faimon, Lawrence, Neb., is a business administration/business education major. She participates in volleyball and track and is a member of Public Relations Council and Chi Omega Psi social sorority. Faimon is a member of Phi Beta Lambda business club, is a Student Association senator representing education, and is on the Dean’s List. She coaches YMCA volleyball and is an assistant volleyball coach at Doniphan-Trumbull School. Kelsey Joseph, daughter of Jerry and Kelli Joseph, Omaha, Neb., is a physical education major. Manager of the volleyball team, she is involved with the Christian Ministry Program, was on the Dean’s List, and is pledge trainer for Chi Omega Psi social sorority. As a freshman, Joseph participated in women’s choir and assisted with the spring semester musical. She volunteers at Crossroads Center, coaches YMCA volleyball, and works with Lunch in the Park. Chelsea LeMar, daughter of Audrey Rogers, Denver, Colo., and Steve LeMar, Omaha, Neb., is an English and political science major. A member of Alpha Phi Sigma social sorority, she is a Student Alumni Ambassador, a member of Sigma Tau Delta English honor society, and participates in Hastings College Child Defenders and Common Grounds fellowship group. For one year, LeMar was a residence hall assistant. Emily Moore, daughter of Thane and Denise Moore, Lexington, Neb., is an elementary and special education major. On the Dean’s List, she is a member of Public Relations Council, serves on the executive council for Student Association and is union activities committee co-chair. Previously a residence hall vice president, Moore is assistant apartment manager for Bronco Village Apartments. She is a member of Chi Omega Psi social sorority and served as treasurer her sophomore year. For two years, Moore was part of the New Student Days staff, is co-president of Student Education Association, is a Student Alumni Ambassador, and a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a utility manager for the baseball and softball teams and participates in IGNITE and Campus Crusade. Paige Prochazka, daughter of Dudley and Robyn Prochazka, Hemingford, Neb., is a marketing and media production major. A member of Public Relations Council, she is on the Dean’s List and is advertising manager for the Collegian newspaper. Prochazka is a member of Alpha Chi academic honor society, a member of Alpha Phi Sigma social sorority, is recreation committee co-chair for Student Association, and is secretary of Phi Beta Lambda business club. She participates in Outdoor Club, Society for Collegiate Journalists and is a Student Alumni Ambassador. Prochazka previously worked with HCTV 6 and production of HCworldnews.com. Grant Bachman, son of Max and Melanie Bachman, Grand Island, Neb., is a media production-broadcast journalism major. He writes for the Collegian newspaper and works with HCTV 6 and KFKX radio. President of the forensics team, he was named Pi Kappa Delta forensics honor society Speaker of the Year as a sophomore. He is a residence hall assistant and a member of residence hall council. As a freshman, he participated in Hastings College Choir. Bachman volunteers at Alcott Elementary School. Brian Bonn, son of Donna Prete, LoneTree, Colo., is majoring in broadcast, theatre and religion. On the Dean’s List, he participates in Hastings College Choir, Men’s Choir and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity. He is a member of the Society for Collegiate Journalists, writes for the Collegian newspaper, and is member of the golf team. He works for KFKX radio station and previously worked for HCTV 6. Bonn is involved in theatre and was awarded a White Mask as an outstanding freshman, and a Scarlet Mask for two years of dedicated service to the theatre program. He was a resident assistant and member of residence hall council his sophomore year. Bonn participated in baseball his freshman year. Aaron Lauer, son of Jim and Deb Lauer, Ainsworth, Neb., is a political science and history major. He writes for the Collegian newspaper, participates in Hastings College Choir, and is a member of Hastings College Republicans. On the Dean’s List, Lauer was on the Artist Lecture Series (ALS) Student Symposium committee and is a member of Alliance. Zach Runcie, son of Doug and Melinda Runcie, Hastings, Neb., is a math education and music major. A member of Beta Chi social fraternity, he was on the Inter-Greek Council. Runcie participates in Hastings College Band, Hastings College Choir, and Jazz Ensemble. He also sings with the Men’s Choir, has participated in Music Theatre Ensemble, and in theatre productions. Nicholas Sanchez, son of Art Sanchez, Englewood, Colo., and Veronica King, Sacramento, Calif., is a theatre and media production-broadcast major. He participates in track and played basketball for one year. Sanchez is involved with theatre, and previously worked for HCTV 6 and KFKX radio. He is vice president of Dropped at Birth Productions, an Omaha-based, independent film company. Brandon Savage, son of Randy and Sally Savage, Hastings, Neb., is a biology major. He is a member of Beta Chi social fraternity and organized a community service project in Castle Rock, Colo., for a church-rebuilding effort. He was catcher on the baseball team for two years and helped with advertising for the Collegian newspaper.
Seth Torpin, son of Rich and Sue Torpin, Walton, Neb., is a history and political science major. A member of Public Relations Council, he is on the Dean’s List, worked with Artist Lecture Series (ALS) Student Symposium and is a Student Association humanities senator. Torpin is a member of Phi Alpha Theta history honor society, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity. He participates in Hastings College Band, Men’s Choir and Brass Choir. Torpin is on the review board for Spectrum literary magazine and is an opinion columnist and cartoonist for the Collegian newspaper. He served on the search committee for a history faculty position.
