September 26, 2005 - Hastings College to present In The West

(Hastings, Neb.) The Hastings College Theatre Department will present In the West in a premiere Midwest performance, Thursday – Saturday, Oct. 6 – 8, and Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m., in Scott Studio Theatre.  The box office opens Thursday, Sept. 29, and remains open weekdays from 12 to 5 p.m. Call (402) 461-7380, or e-mail tickets@hastings.edu. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and non-Hastings College students.                 In the West was created in 1985 in reaction to Richard Avedon’s photo exhibit “In the American West,” which premiered in Fort Worth, Texas, and portrayed Westerners. Created by a group of 21 actors, writers and directors in a workshop in Texas, In the West was conceived by Jim Fritzler, associate professor of theatre arts, and depicts true stories of what really happened in the West. The production will include 20, 10-minute monologues.                 In the West is self-directed. Each cast member draws the name of another cast member and they are responsible for directing each other. There will be live music prior to each performance.                Photos used in the production were created by Dr. David Lovekin, Hastings College professor of philosophy and chair of the department.                 Stage manager is Bethany LaForce, junior, daughter of Gail LaForce/William LaForce, Sterling, Colo., and assistant stage manager is Luis Ayala, sophomore, son of Diego/Tammy Ayala, Neligh, Neb. Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). A total of 61 majors in 32 areas of study and 12 pre-professional programs are offered. The college was cited among top liberal arts colleges, national bachelor’s category, in U.S.News and World Report, America’s Best Colleges 2006, and was listed as a Best Midwestern College by The Princeton Review 2006.   Cast members and their monologues:In Mrs. Rivera’s Classroom – Gabriela Ayala, senior, Diego/Tammy Ayala, Neligh, Neb.Why I Did It – Lacey Brady, senior, John/Darla Brady, Anton, Colo. One Who Left – Jessica Brock, junior, Craig/Bonnie Brock, Bertrand, Neb.
