FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hastings, Neb., August 23, 2005 -- Hastings College was ranked among top liberal arts colleges in U.S.News & World Report, America’s Best Colleges 2006, in a recently released survey. The survey provides a tool for students in their college or university selection. Hastings College placed in the third tier of liberal arts colleges-bachelor’s national category. The college was also cited as a Best Midwestern College by The Princeton Review 2006. Colleges were divided into four geographic regions within the United States to aid in the school selection process.

U.S.News & World Report compared the academic quality of Hastings College with 161 other liberal arts institutions across the United States. These colleges emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts. Most are private institutions. Rankings use Carnegie classifications based on peer assessment, retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance, and alumni giving rate. Colleges submitted data that was compiled with information collected from other national associations.

The Princeton Review had two criteria required for selection. Colleges had to meet a standard of academic excellence and students enrolled at the institution were anonymously surveyed during an on-campus visit. Data was compiled from 646 schools, with Hastings College being among 158 selected for the designation.

Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). A total of 61 majors in 32 areas of study and 12 pre-professional programs are offered to approximately 1,153 students. The 2005-06 academic year begins Monday, Aug. 29.
