April 11, 2007 - Hastings College Alliance organization to host speaker
The Hastings College Alliance organization will host Davis Mallory, Atlanta, Ga., Monday, April 16, at 7 p.m., in French Memorial Chapel. Mallory, a cast member on MTV’s “The Real World: Denver,” will discuss Christians who are gay. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Mallory grew up in Marietta, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta, in a conservative Southern Baptist home. As a sixth grader, he realized he was gay and shared the information with his family. He attended Stetson University in DeLand, Fla., and auditioned for MTV's “The Real World” at an open call in Tampa. He was cast as the "straight acting" gay person dealing with his religion.
Mallory makes personal appearances at malls, college campuses, bars and nightclubs, and spring break trips, speaking about the process of coming out, dealing with Christianity and being gay.
The Alliance organization promotes and educates about safety, dignity and respect for students of all sexual orientations, including gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual and transgender people.
