March 1, 2007 - Jiggle Jazz Ensemble to perform at Hastings College
Hastings College will host the Jiggle Jazz Ensemble, Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m., in Perkins Auditorium, Fuhr Hall of Music. The performance is free and open to the public.
The Jiggle Jazz Ensemble, based in Arizona, consists of two saxophones, a bass and drums. Known for their original music, the ensemble also plays music by composers such as Ornette Coleman, Dave Holland, Thelonious Monk and Ed Schuller. Jiggle Jazz has a flexible sound drawing from free-form influences and more traditional styles of jazz.
Recently the band performed at colleges in the Phoenix area and in other venues throughout the Southwest.
Musicians include: Ted Sistrunk, bassist; saxophonists Scott Zimmer and Mary Petrich; and drummer Rob Moore. Sistrunk has been a fixture on the Phoenix music scene for more than 20 years performing, recording and composing music in a variety of styles. Zimmer has performed and recorded a variety of musical styles ranging from commercial to jazz to classical. He has performed with The Coasters and The Four Tops. Petrich performs frequently in the Phoenix area. She has worked with Lou Rawls and the Sun City Orchestra. Moore has worked with Doc Severinson and Gunther Schuller.
