Feb. 7, 2007 - Dr. Alan Lightman to speak at Hastings College
Dr. Alan Lightman, physicist, novelist, essayist, and educator, will address “Truth in Science and Truth in Art,” at Hastings College, Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m., in French Memorial Chapel. Sponsored by the college’s Artist Lecture Series National Speaker’s Committee, the presentation is free and open to the public.
Lightman, John E. Burchard Professor of Humanities at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is called “a highly original and imaginative thinker” by the New York Times.
Author of a dozen books, Lightman’s novel, Einstein’s Dreams, was on the international bestseller list for 16 weeks. He most recently published The Diagnosis, voted one of the 10 best novels of the year by Booksense. Lightman has authored essays, short fiction and reviews that have appeared in The Atlantic, Granta, Harper’s, The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, and other magazines. He was a finalist for the 2000 National Book Award in fiction.
Lightman is a regular commentator for National Public Radio.
