The Hastings College Music Department will host the annual Nebraska High School Honor Band, Choir and Orchestra Festival, Thursday – Saturday, Feb. 1 – 3. 

More than 600 high school students auditioned and 200 were selected to work with guest conductors. The festival will culminate with a concert, Saturday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m., in Kiewit Gymnasium, 715 E. 7th Street. The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students (K-9), and may be purchased at the door. 

Guest clinicians include: Dennis Glocke, director of concert bands, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa. (honor band); Dr. Fritz Mountford, professor of music and director of choral activities, Hastings College (honor choir); and Dr. Michael Griffith, music director and symphony orchestra conductor, University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyo., (honor orchestra). 

This is the 45th year for the honor band, 37th year for the honor choir, and the 28th year for the honor orchestra. The Hastings College Music Department was the first Nebraska college to host such an event.

Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). A total of 64 majors in 32 areas of study and 12 pre-professional programs are offered to 1,137 students.  The college was cited among top liberal arts colleges, national bachelor’s category, in U.S. News and World Report, America’s Best Colleges 2007, and was listed as a Best Midwestern College by The Princeton Review 2007, and as a Best Buy in College Education by Barron’s.
