October 23, 2006 - Langenberg Organ Recital Series, sponsored by Hastings College and First Presbyterian Church
The second of four Langenberg Organ Recitals will be held Sunday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 621 N. Lincoln Ave., Hastings, Neb. The recital is free and open to the public. Following the recital, a light meal will be served in Fellowship Hall.

The second of four Langenberg Organ Recitals will be held Sunday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 621 N. Lincoln Ave., Hastings, Neb. The recital is free and open to the public. Following the recital, a light meal will be served in Fellowship Hall.
Performing will be Dr. J. Gordon Christensen, a native of Danneborg, Neb., who has taught at Chase County Schools, Imperial, Neb., since 1968. The summer of 1994, Christensen established a vocal music curriculum for a secondary English immersion school in Tisovic, Republic of Slovakia. In 1995, he performed in Nizny-Novogorod and Moscow, Russia, and is co-founder of the Moscow Bach Society. Christensen has an associate certificate in the American Guild of Organists (AAGO), and is active in the Lincoln, Neb., chapter. Christensen completed a bachelor’s degree in music at Hastings College in 1965. He holds a master’s degree in music and a doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Langenberg Organ Recital Series commemorates the 50-year anniversary of First Presbyterian Church’s Austin organ. Through the generosity of the Langenberg Music Endowment, a four-year organ enhancement/renovation project began in 2002. The Langenberg Music Endowment was established in 2001 following the death of Luella Langenberg. The endowment provides for special needs of the church’s music program including the purchase of Steinway piano, honoraria for collegiate chancel choir section leaders, and for the purchase of Orff instruments.
The organ recital series is co-sponsored by the Hastings College Department of Music, the Hastings College Vocation and Values Program, and First Presbyterian Church.
