Hastings College will celebrate Homecoming/Family Weekend, Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 28-Oct. 1, following the theme “HC Bronco Roundup.” The weekend will feature athletic contests, a lecture, a parade, a tailgate barbeque, an art exhibit, and class reunions.

Hastings College will celebrate Homecoming/Family Weekend, Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 28-Oct. 1, following the theme “HC Bronco Roundup.” The weekend will feature athletic contests, a lecture, a parade, a tailgate barbeque, an art exhibit, and class reunions.
For the fourth year, legacy activities will be part of the festivities. A golf tournament, dinner and auction will be held Friday, Sept. 29, at Lochland Country Club. Golf registration begins at 12:30 p.m., and dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Money raised from the event will benefit the Tom McLaughlin Scholarship fund, a fund established in the memory of long-time Hastings College coach “Tiger” Tom McLaughlin. Thursday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m., a Hastings College Business After Hours, in conjunction with the Hasting Chamber of Commerce, will be held at the Barrett Alumni Center.
Friday activities begin at 10 a.m., with an ALS Invited Faculty Lecture by Tony Hobson, assistant professor of physical education and head women’s basketball coach. He will address the topic “The Ideal Athletic Program.” The lecture will take place in French Memorial Chapel.
Saturday events begin at 10 a.m. with the 56th Melody Round-up Parade in downtown Hastings. Area high school bands will be competing for prizes, Hastings College Homecoming royalty will be presented, and college organizations will sponsor floats. An all-campus tailgate barbeque will be held in the Gray Center parking lot from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Several athletic contests will take place. At 10 a.m., the Hastings College cross country team will host an invitational at Brickyard Park, W. D St. and S. Woodland Ave. The Bronco football team will face Briar Cliff University at 2 p.m. at the Osborne Family Sports Complex. The women’s soccer team will play Briar Cliff at 6 p.m., and the men’s soccer team will play Briar Cliff at 8 p.m. Both soccer games will be at the Osborne Complex. The honored classes of 1966, 1976, 1981, 1986, and 1996 will gather at various sites. The class of 1996 will meet Friday, at 9 p.m., at Taylor’s Steakhouse. Immediately after Saturday’s football game until 6:30 p.m., an all-alumni reception will be held at the Barrett Alumni Center. At 8 p.m., receptions will be held at Murphy’s Wagon Wheel for the classes of 1981 and 1996. At 6:30 p.m., Saturday, a dinner for former athletes of Coach Russell Bogue will be held at the Garden Café. Bogue was head basketball and baseball coach from 1955 to 1962.
The art gallery is featuring works from the art faculty’s personal collections and will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Bronco Bookstore will be open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday.
Sachtleben Observatory will be open for sky viewing at Saturday at 9 p.m. Call (402) 46-OBSERV for the latest information. First Presbyterian Church in Hastings will celebrate Hastings College Sunday at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services. The Hastings College Choir and college personnel will be featured.
