September 11, 2006 - Hastings College to host golf tournament, auction and dinner
The Hastings College Alumni Association and Hastings College Foundation are hosting a golf tournament, dinner, and silent and live auctions, Friday, Sept. 29. Golf will take place at Lochland Country Club and Southern Hills Golf Course. The dinner and auction will be at Lochland. The tournament and auction are being held in conjunction with Homecoming weekend. Funds raised will go toward athletic scholarships. The event is open to the public. To register, call Kim Benak at (800) 225-9941. Cost for golf is $100 per person and includes a cart, lunch, beverage tickets and a wind shirt. Dinner at Lochland Country Club is an additional $15. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., with a 1:30 p.m. tee time. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Nathan Stineman, Oxford, Neb., a 1971 Hastings College graduate, will serve as auctioneer. Items to be auctioned include: a George Lundeen golf sculpture titled “Caddy;” sports packages for Denver and Kansas City; a 40-inch Sony LCD high definition television; a three-day lodging package in Steamboat Springs; Colo.; a spring training and golf package in Arizona (includes round-trip airfare from Omaha to Phoenix, and four nights lodging); one week of lodging in Winter Park, Colo.; golf packages in Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas City and Florida; and Hastings College memorabilia including a framed photograph of the 2006 national championship women’s basketball team. Numerous silent auction items will also be available for bidding.

Four years ago, a donor established a matching gift for the athletic department, and proceeds from the golf tournament and auction go toward the Tom McLaughlin Scholarship. Income from this fund, established in the memory of long-time coach “Tiger” Tom McLaughlin, is used to award scholarships to Hastings College varsity athletes.
