Classes began Monday, Aug. 28, at Hastings College with an enrollment of 1,143, reflecting 90.4 percent retention of students eligible to return from last year. Official enrollment figures will be tabulated Oct. 2.

Classes began Monday, Aug. 28, at Hastings College with an enrollment of 1,143, reflecting 90.4 percent retention of students eligible to return from last year. Official enrollment figures will be tabulated Oct. 2.
The unofficial, first-day count includes full-time and part-time students and master of arts in teaching students. Fifteen Mary Lanning/Creighton University students who take liberal arts courses at Hastings College and three international exchange students are not included in these enrollment figures. Two Central Community College students in the college-bound education program are not included in the count either.
This year’s incoming freshmen class of 263 includes 17 valedictorians and salutatorians. ACT scores of the first-year students average 23.67 points. In addition to first-year students, Hastings College enrolled 38 students who transferred from other institutions.
Seventy-two percent of the new students are from Nebraska. Other states represented are: Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, Iowa, Texas, and Wyoming. The class also includes six foreign students from Romania, German, Ireland, and Canada.
