June 15, 2007 - Hastings College student selected for NASA summer research
Hastings College senior Heather Finney is participating in a summer research internship with NASA through the Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program (LARSS) in Langley, Va. Finney was one of a 125 high-caliber students selected from more than 1,000 students who applied.
Finney, a physics major, is the daughter of Jon and Patricia Finney, Sidney, Neb.
The LARSS Program, established in 1917, is managed for NASA by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium under the auspices of the National Institute of Aerospace.
For the 26th year, interns are spending 10 weeks completing a research project under the supervision of a NASA technical mentor. They also are awarded a $4,500 scholarship for their summer research experience.
NASA Langley’s primary mission is basic aeronautics and space technology research. The summer internship program focuses on undergraduate juniors and seniors who are pursuing degrees in aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, computer science, atmospheric science, astrophysics, physics, chemistry, or other selected aerospace disciplines.
