Hastings College senior Jillian Heiden, Benedict, Neb., was awarded the $25,000 Jeffery Wallace Ellis Educational Trust Scholarship, Friday, May 9, at the annual Honors Convocation in French Memorial Chapel.

A biology major, Heiden will attend the University of Nebraska, College of Medicine, in Omaha, Neb., where she will pursue dual doctor of medicine and master of public health degrees.

Heiden is the daughter of Cynthia Heiden and Greg Heiden.

Competition for the Ellis Trust was limited to Nebraska residents in the top 10 percent of the senior class at Hastings College who intend to use the grant for study toward a graduate degree or certificate in a post graduate program beginning in the fall of 2008  The late Mrs. Lloyd Ellis, who resided in Hastings, and her son, Dr. Lloyd Ellis, Jr., of Salon, Ohio, established the educational trust in 1986 to “encourage industry, moral purpose and intellectual growth among young Nebraska people.”
