April 9, 2008 - Hastings College SHAC to sponsor cystic fibrosis walk

The Hastings College Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation are sponsoring a walk Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m., to raise money to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to find a cure and increase awareness about the debilitating disease. The public is invited to participate.

The five-mile walk will be held at Heartwell Park in Hastings.

Walkers will meet at Lakeside Drive and California Avenue to start the walk. Participants do not need to register, but are encouraged to collect donations before the event. Donation forms may be picked up prior to the event from Beth Littrell, director of health services, or Margo Hardy, at Stone Health Center, 843 N. Turner Avenue.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited, chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States, and 70,000 people worldwide.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a nonprofit, donor supported organization that assures the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease.
