The Hastings College forensics team placed 12th at the American Forensic Association (AFA) National Individual Events Tournament at the University of Texas at Austin, April 4 – 7. Fourteen students competed in 45 events.

The team has placed in the top 20 for the past 10 years. The team finished 15th last year.

Senior Melanie Hiatt was named a 2008 AFA All-American. The honor is based on leadership in forensics, community service, college contributions and academic success. Hiatt is the daughter of Michael and Lisa Hiatt, Harvard, Neb.

Jordan Palmer, senior, quarterfinalist, program of oral interpretation; 5th
 place, dramatic interpretation; daughter of Todd/April Palmer,
 Omaha, Neb.

Aaron Blackman, junior, quarterfinalist, dramatic interpretation; son of
 Susan Blackman/Raymond Blackman, Valparaiso, Neb.
