March 3, 2008 - Hastings College students to perform in recital

Three Hastings College students will perform in a recital, Sunday, March 9, at 1:30 p.m., in Perkins Auditorium, Fuhr Hall of Music.
The recital is free and open to the public.
Performing will be Julie Straube, mezzo-soprano; Martin VanWesten, bass; and Darci Tomky, piano.
Straube will sing Schumann’s Volksliedchen, Fraser-Simpson’s The Hums of Pooh, Giordani’s Caro Mio Ben; Durante’s Vergin Tutto Amor; Ravel’s Toi, le coeur de la Rose; and Handel’s O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion.
Benjiman Pettiford will provide piano accompaniment, and Lindsey Thompson will narrate.
VanWesten will perform Purcell’s There’s not a Swain of the Plain, selections from Handel’s The Messiah, Schubert’s Litanei, Gilbert’s A More Humane Mikado, Lehmann’s Myself When Young, Vivaldi’s Quis non posset, and Hupfeld’s When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba.
Emilie Powers will provide piano accompaniment.
Tomky will play Bartok’s Suite, Op. 14; Field’s Nocturne No. 4 in A major; and Brahms’ Capriccio in D minor, Op. 116, No. 1.
Straube, a junior, is the daughter of David/Paula Straube, Tecumseh, Neb.
VanWesten, a junior, is the son of Glenn/Tallie VanWesten, Plattsmouth, Neb.
Tomky, a senior, is the daughter of Darrell/Debra Tomky, Holyoke, Colo.
Pettiford, a junior, is the son of Ann Pettiford, Lincoln, Neb.
Thompson, a sophomore, is the daughter of Kent/Carol Thompson, Louisville, Colo.
Powers, a junior, is the daughter of Philip/Mary Powers, Columbus, Neb.
