Feb. 12, 2008 - Hastings College announces faculty promotions, tenure

Hastings College has awarded promotions to 14 faculty members and granted tenure to five. Action was taken by the Executive Committee of the Hastings College Board of Trustees at a Feb. 1 meeting. The changes take effect July 1. 

 Those granted tenure included: Dr. Douglas Kinnear, Dr. Marc LaChance,
Dr. Renee Laegreid, Dr. Fitz Mountford, and Douglas Phelps.  

 Dr. William Beachly, Dr. Steven Bever, David Carpenter, James Fritzler, and Ruth Moore were promoted to rank of professor.

Dr. Neil Heckman, Kinnear and Phelps have been promoted to rank of associate professor.

Fred Aubuchon, Kendrick Clay, Deborah Johnson, Darci Karr, Cynthia Murphy and Chad Power have been promoted to rank of assistant professor.

Kinnear, who teaches economics, joined the faculty in 2004. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Mankato State University, Mankato, Minn., and a master’s degree and doctorate at Colorado State University, Ft. Collins.

LaChance joined the music faculty in 2000. He completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, a master’s degree at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ky., and a doctorate at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. 

Laegreid joined the history faculty in 2003. She completed a bachelor’s degree at Washington State University, Pullman; a master’s degree at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn.; and a doctorate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Mountford joined the music faculty in 2000. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Hastings College, a master’s degree at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla., and a doctoral degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. 

Phelps has been an education faculty member since 2003. He completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Hastings College.

Beachly, who teaches biology, joined the faculty in 1997. He completed bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Bever, who teaches physics, joined the faculty in 2003. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Manchester College, North Manchester, Ind.; and a master’s degree and doctorate at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.

Carpenter joined the accounting department in 1997. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Hastings College and a master’s degree at the University of Wyoming, Laramie. He is a certified management accountant, certified in financial management, and is a certified public accountant (inactive).

Fritzler joined the theatre department in 1999. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Hastings College and received a master’s degree from the University of Texas-Austin.

Moore has been a music faculty member since 1988. She completed a bachelor’s degree at Hastings College and a master’s degree at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.

Heckman joined the chemistry department in 2003. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Chadron State College, Chadron, Neb., and a master’s degree and doctorate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Aubuchon joined the physical education department in 2003. He is also head volleyball coach. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, and a master’s degree at The University of Toledo, Ohio.

Clay, who teaches in the physical education department, joined the faculty in 2003. He is head track and cross country coach. Clay graduated from Hastings College, and completed a master’s degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Johnson joined the music faculty in 2003. She completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Hastings College.

Karr has been an education and computer science faculty member since 2005. She completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Murphy joined the music faculty in 2003. She completed a bachelor’s degree at Hastings College.

Power, who teaches in the communication department, joined the faculty in 2003. He completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Hastings College.
