Nov. 12, 2007 - Hastings College to host One Campus, One Community luncheon
The Hastings College Vocation and Values Program will host a “One Campus, One Community” luncheon Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Hazelrigg Student Union, Rooms A and B.
Guest speaker will be Becky Gould, executive director and staff attorney for Nebraska Appleseed. She will address: “Why Good Policies Fail and What We Can Do About It.”
Based in Lincoln, Neb., Nebraska Appleseed is a non-profit organization that focuses on advancing policies and practices that promote self-sufficiency for Nebraska’s working poor families, promotes the integration and participation of immigrant populations in communities across Nebraska, provides safe and adequate child welfare services to children who need protection, increases low-income people’s access to the legal system and supports democracy by removing barriers to low-income people’s participation in the electoral and public policy decision-making processes. The organization was founded in 1996.
The luncheon is part of the college’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week activities.
“One Campus, One Community” luncheons are funded through the Lilly Endowment Inc., to encourage communication between the college and Hastings community. pproximately 80 local community leaders, campus leaders, faculty and students will be in attendance.
