Sept. 28, 2007 - Three join Hastings College Board of Trustees

William Barrett, Cupertino, Calif., Kristin Allen, New York City, N.Y., and Robert Unger, Denver, Colo., have joined the Hastings College Board of Trustees. The 28-member board met Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27 and 28, at Hastings College.


 The board is chaired by Harold Dittmer ’62, Sacramento, Calif. Vice chair of the board is Robert Gottsch, Hastings, Neb.


 Three retiring Board members were named honorary trustees. They were: The Honorable William Barrett, Lexington, Neb.; Robert Foote, Sr., Hastings, Neb.; and Robert Julian, Omaha, Neb.


 Kristin Allen, a Hastings, Neb., native, is a managing director and vice chair of investment banking at Credit Suisse in New York City. She has extensive experience working with companies in the entertainment, broadcasting and tower sectors, and has been lead banker for companies such as Univision, CBS, Clear Channel and Radio One.


 Allen received a bachelor of arts degree at Brown University, Providence, R.I., and a master’s of business administration at Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H.


A graduate of Hastings High School, Allen is the daughter of Robert and Georgene Allen of Hastings.


 William Barrett, a 1977 graduate of Hastings College, is managing director, tax, export and customs for Applied Materials, Inc., Santa Clara, Calif. Applied Materials is the world’s largest producer of semiconductor manufacturing equipment with operations in more than 20 countries.


 Barrett is a certified public accountant and holds a master’s degree in professional accounting (tax specialization) from the University of Texas at Austin and an undergraduate business and economics degree from Hastings College.


Barrett is the son of William and Elsie Barrett of Lexington, Neb.


Robert Unger, a native of Hastings, Neb., is founder of Platte River Capital, an investment firm with offices in Denver, Colo., and Portland, Ore.


Prior to founding Platte River Capital, Unger served as a senior portfolio manager, director and analyst at Columbia Management for more than 22 years. For 13 years, he was an officer and portfolio manager for two nationally recognized investment organizations.


Unger graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., with a bachelor’s degree in investment finance. He completed a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Denver.
