Sept. 24, 2007 - India Childrens Choir to perform in Hastings
The India Children's Choir will perform Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 621 N. Lincoln Ave.
The performance is free and open to the public.
The choir, from the hills of Manipur in North East India along the India-Burma-China border, is on a 10-month tour of the United States.
The 23 children in the choir are descendants of the Hmar Tribe, fierce headhunters who turned to Christianity in 1910.
The choir previously performed in Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral, Chuck Swindol's church in Fullerton, Calif., Dr. Charles Stanley's First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga., and on Focus on the Family. They have appeared on numerous television programs, in other churches, schools, retirement homes and various venues.
Tim Mercaldo, from Gateway Cathedral, Staten Island, N.Y., said, “From the moment the children walked in singing Sunday night, our congregation was captivated by the spirit of their ministry.”
The choir’s appearance is co-sponsored by the Hastings College Department of Music, the Hastings College Vocation and Values Program, and First Presbyterian Church.
