Sept. 6, 2007 - Dewey to tell biblical stories at First-St. Pauls Lutheran Church
Biblical storyteller Dennis Dewey will present stories from the Old and New Testaments at First-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 501 N. Burlington, Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. His program is titled “In the Beginning, Toward the Middle, and All the Way to the End: Stories from Genesis to Revelation.”
The presentation is free and open to the public.
Dewey’s visit is sponsored jointly by First-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Hastings College through a grant from the Presbyterian Church (USA).
The earliest stories of faith circulated in oral form for generations before they were written down. Dewey presents biblical stories with the impact they had in preliterate culture, making use of dramatic space so the listener visualizes the events and characters of the stories.
Dewey has been telling biblical stories for 25 years. He has offered numerous performances and workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, England, Korea, as well as other places. He has appeared on national television shows and performed for the National Storytelling Festival.
From Utica, N.Y., Dewey is executive director of the Network of Biblical Storytellers, an international organization dedicated to promoting the practice of learning and telling stories of the Bible. He also is a designated pastor at Stone Presbyterian Church, Clinton, N.Y.
