|History of the Hastings College Foundation|
In 1982, the Hastings College Foundation was created by the Board of Trustees as a permanent part of Hastings College's organization. The Foundation was to promote and manage all fundraising activities, oversee the alumni function of the college, and establish a vision for future development efforts. In addition to its headquarters in Hastings, the Foundation also has development offices in Omaha and Colorado.
Over the past 25+ years, the results have been dramatic. Through its six major capital campaigns, the Foundation has raised over $100 million for Hastings College. The results are:
|Second Century Campaign, 1982-1985||$10,000,000|
|Campaign for Hastings, 1985-1989||20,000,000|
|Campaign for Excellence, 1989-1994||17,600,000|
|Building on Tradition, 1994-2002||24,500,000|
|Osborne Legacy Project, 1997-2002||14,000,000|
|Morrison-Reeves Science Center, 2002-2009||14,000,000|
Today, Hastings College is in the strongest position in its history in terms of financial stability, physical plant, and quality of programs. The endowment which has earned an average annual return of 13.5% over the last 15 years, is now over $50 million, providing nearly 20% of the institutional annual operating support. Campus additions such as the Morrison-Reeves Science Center, the Osborne Family Sports Complex, the Barrett Alumni Center, the Wilson Computer Science and Mathematics Center and major renovations to the Hazelrigg Student Union, McCormick Hall and Hurley McDonald Administration Building have all been funded through private donations raised by the Foundation.
With the completion of the Morrison-Reeves Science Center, the goal for the near future is to shift focus to growing the endowment and funding operational needs and special initiatives of the college. Efforts to secure estate gifts through planned giving efforts are also a priority for the Foundation. Broadening the base of alumni support is another key strategic initiative. The future success of Hastings College is directly correlated to the strength of its endowment and the broad base of support it can secure.
