In both formal and informal ways, the Center for Vocation, Faith & Service and the Christian Ministry Program is closely intertwined with Christian congregational life in the Hastings and Grand Island area. Our students have found a wide range of ways in which they contribute to the well-being of local parishes and congregations, and to the worshipping and service efforts of these communities.
Our students also work closely with the Chaplain’s Office on campus to be a part of the shape of religious life on the Hastings College campus, as well.
The students in the Christian Ministry Program are encouraged to explore:
- Becoming involved in the work, worship, and/or ministry of a local congregation – to shape and be shaped by them.
- Participating and/or leading in Chapel worship on campus and thinking reflectively about liturgy and preaching
- Becoming a part of Chapel leadership as liturgist, musician and/or as a preacher.
- Participation in Chapel Committee, or on organizational boards in local congregations and parishes to learn how to shape and maintain worshipping communities – and to be maintained by them!
- Consideration of a practicum (internship) placement in congregational or parish settings
