Christian Ministry Scholars 2012-13

 

ELYSE APPELGATE is a senior from Lakewood, Colorado.  She is majoring in Sociology and minoring in Spanish and Social Justice through the Christian Ministry program. She has traveled internationally through several opportunities provided by Hastings College.  After graduation, she hopes to continue to travel internationally while working for social benefit organizations, or teaching English.

 

LAURA BONNETT is a senior from Bellevue, NE majoring in English education and minoring in Christian ministry. She enjoys rainbows, laughing, learning, and also scrambled eggs. After graduating she feels called to teach at-risk middle schoolers and then to find a solid therapeutic outlet.

 

BEN DUMAS is a senior from Castle Rock, CO. His hobbies include longboarding, snowboarding, ultimate Frisbee, and listening to music. He is a double major in Religion and Peace, Justice, & Social Change, with a minor in Christian Ministry. He has worked as the Youth Director at Grace United Methodist Church for almost three years and is exploring more ways to work with the church after graduation.

 

MARK HEWITT is a senior education major from Omaha. He is a member of Public Relations Council, Student Executive Council, ALS Selection Committee, and Campus Democrats. He enjoys cheering for the Huskers, playing basketball, watching the Office, and putting off his homework.

 

ANGIE LITZ is a senior from North Platte, NE majoring in Psychology with a minor in Christian Ministries. She wants to be a counselor for raped and domestic assaulted victims. She is a member of the First Baptist Church in North Platte. Some of her interests are hunting, fishing, biking, watching movies, listening to music, and high jumping for the Track and Field team.

 

MEG SMITH is a senior from Moscow, Russia, where her parents are missionaries. She is double major in History and Religion with an emphasis in Missions and Social Justice. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school to study medieval history.

 

RUBEA STOUPPE is a senior from Hutchinson, KS double majoring in International Studies and Peace, Justice, and Social Change. After graduation she plans to spend a year abroad studying Arabic and teaching English, and then attend law school focusing in International Human Rights law. Some of her interests include coffee, food, books, music, and painting.

 

KEVIN WRIGHT is a senior biology student interested in a career in public health. He is particularly interested in health disparities and ensuring all people have access to adequate medical care. He is involved with numerous activities on campus such as Student Association and peer health education. He also enjoys anything in the outdoors.

 

RYAN GARDER is a junior at Hastings originally from Blair, NE, majoring in Math Education with a minor in Christian Ministry. Ryan plays baseball for the Hastings College Broncos, is Co-president of Students Education Association, and Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program. Ryan is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and plans to attend seminary.

 

EMILY JOHNSON is a junior majoring in Political Science and Peace, Justice, and Social Change and minoring in Christian Ministries and Women and Gender Studies. She is currently interning abroad at a women and children's empowerment center in Kakamega, Kenya for the fall semester.  Emily is passionate about social justice work and serving others. She hopes to attend law school and become an international human rights lawyer advocating for the rights of women and children everywhere.

 

MAKAYLA KORT is a junior from Grand Island, NE. She has a personalized program of Art Therapy with a minor in Christian Ministry. She is a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Island, NE and has been a religious education teacher for five years. Her hobbies include teaching religious education classes, drawing, singing, and spending time with family and friends. She hopes to one day use her skills in art to counsel and help others around her.

 

EDISON MCDONALD is a junior at Hastings College, originally from Lincoln, NE. He is a double major in Political Science and Religion. He hopes to become more involved with the political process. He is currently involved in many organizations around campus. He enjoys running, biking, reading, and eating pizza. He is planning on attending Law School upon graduation.

 

LOGAN HENNING is a sophomore from Seward, NE.  He is currently majoring in Biology, and hopes to become a physical therapist.  In his spare time he enjoys playing sports, specifically basketball, watching the Rams, and reading.

 

LAUREN MILLER is a sophomore originally from Kansas City, Kansas. She is majoring in Elementary Education with minors in Early Childhood Development and Christian Ministry, and hopes to teach in areas with low income students. She enjoys reading, sewing, and listening to music.

 

ADAM NEELY is a sophomore from Lincoln, NE. He’s double majoring in Theatre and Religion. He’s a member of the United Methodist Church. His future aspiration is to become a Youth Pastor and he is going through the Candidacy for Ordination process. He is an active member of the College Acquaintance Rape Educators and is Co-chair of the Religious Organizations Committee. His hobbies are reading and hanging out with friends!

 

BETHANY REED is a sophomore originally from Hastings, NE.  She is a Spanish and Secondary Education major with a minor in Christian Ministry, and one day hopes to be a High School Spanish teacher.  She is a member of the Hastings College Choir, and is also very much involved at her church, First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings.

 

HANNAH SEAGREN is a sophomore originally from Bloomfield, NE. She is majoring in the Field Endorsement of Music Education with a minor in Christian Ministries. She enjoys spending her time reading, singing, listening to music, watching movies, spending time with family, and hanging out with friends.

 

NICOLE DELPHIA is a freshman at Hastings College from Littleton, Colorado. She is majoring in Mathematics and with a minor in Christian Ministry. She is a member of the Catholic Church. She hopes to work for an international nonprofit organization, possibly by teaching in a third world country or doing international mission work. She is involved in religious and service organizations on campus.

 

LOGAN ELLIS is a freshman from Beaver City, Nebraska. He is majoring in Religion with emphasis in Christian Ministry and plans to expand on it with the Personalized Program. He is an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and is studying to be a Stephan Minister there to help console fellow Christians. He is an active member in several musical and religious organizations on campus. After graduation he plans to go to seminary to be an ordained pastor to preach God’s Word.

 

HAILEE MOORE is a freshman from Wellfleet, NE majoring in Psychology with a minor in Christian Ministries. She went to high school in Maywood, NE where she is also a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is a member of the Hastings College Band and some of her interests include dancing, singing, and having fun with her friends.

 

CASSIE REID is a freshman from Littleton, CO.  She is without a major, but interested in Education. Her hobbies are writing, playing Quidditch, performing, and laughing.

 

PAIGE SKILLET is a freshman from Lincoln, Nebraska. She is majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Christian ministry. She plays softball for Hastings College. She plans to go on to graduate school to become a pediatric dentist.

 

IAN TYLER TUTTLE is a freshman from Greeley, CO.  He is majoring in Physics with a Math minor and Christian Ministries minor.  He faithfully attends the Lakeside Community Church in Hastings. With all his free time, he enjoys reading books, watching movies, playing games, and socializing with friends. After college, he hopes to pursue a career as an Architectural Engineer.
