| In 2008, Hastings College established a Rodeo Club that competes in a number of rodeos within the Great Plains Region, providing club members with the opportunity to qualify for nationals.
The club utilizes great practice facilities, as well as the stock and boarding facilities, at the nearby Adams County Fairgrounds.
Hastings College offers rodeo scholarships and also pays the college rodeo membership fee. Rodeo Club members are responsible for covering their own rodeo entry fees, travel expenses and feeding their own animals. Team members are encouraged to have their own pickup and trailer, but are able to haul with others to the rodeos. Although a young team, it is known to practice hard and rodeo hard.
Rodeos are held across the Midwest. Competitors who finish in the top three in the region qualify for nationals, as do the top two teams.
Club Coach Justen Nokes is a native of McCook, Nebraska. He rodeoed at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he was an assistant coach as a fifth-year senior in 2001-02. He qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in steer wrestling and team roping from 1999 to 2001 and rodeoed professionally after graduation, claiming several titles.
