“What Hastings Students Say About Academics"
Hastings College is among the 159 colleges and universities named a 2009 Best College in the Midwestern Region by The Princeton Review. Colleges were selected for inclusion based on two criteria: The Princeton Review’s standards for academic excellence and surveys of current students. Selected schools are profiled on a website that, according to The Princeton Review, “helps over half of university-bound students research, apply to, prepare for, and learn how to pay for their higher education.”
Each institutional profile includes statistics and information on enrollment, scholarships, financial aid, academic majors, and student-to-faculty ratio, as well as student responses to the survey questions. To determine the 159 Best Midwestern Colleges, The Princeton Review analyzed colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Among the six Nebraska schools profiled, Hastings College ranked high in Princeton’s “Quality of Life” category and “Academics” categories. Responses were scored on a scale, with 99 being the top score. Hastings College scored an 81 in academics and an 89 in quality of campus life.
Princeton weighed several factors, including “students' assessments of: their overall happiness; the beauty, safety, and location of the campus; the comfort of dorms; the quality of food; the ease of getting around campus and dealing with administrators; the friendliness of fellow students; the interaction of different student types; and the quality of the relationship with the local community.”
Following are excerpts from The Princeton Review’s “What Hastings Students Say About Academics, Campus Life and the Student Body:”
- “Hastings College offers a thorough slate of liberal arts requirements ensuring that all students are exposed to the most comprehensive program for personal and professional development available in the United States.”
- "My academic experience has opened all sorts of doors for me both professionally and personally. This would not have been possible without the availability and, more importantly, mentorship of my professors or administrators.”
- “People at Hastings College take a genuine interest in the development of each student. Professors make themselves readily available 24 hours day.”
- “Most students are very involved in the campus community, and the college provides many different groups to join.”
