Aug. 28-- Long time Hastings College baseball coach, Jim Boeve, has been elected into the NAIA Hall of Fame. He will be inducted at the Rawlings/NAIA Awards Luncheon at the ABCA Convention (Dallas, Texas, January 8, 2010)
Jim Boeve’s leadership and the professional manner that he demonstrates everyday have been instrumental in the growth of baseball at Hastings College. Since Boeve’s first season as head coach in 1989, the program has grown to incorporate both varsity and junior varsity programs. Boeve’s resume includes seven NIAC/GPAC Conference Championships and two NIAC/GPAC Tournament Championships. Several of his players have signed professional contracts and many have been inducted into the Hastings College Athletic Hall of Fame. Boeve is equally proud of the numerous players he has coached that have gone on to become doctors, teachers, lawyers, physicists and coaches. Boeve cares deeply about the players on his team and sees the ball field as an extension of the classroom. His athletes admire him and see him as a role model and mentor. Boeve embodies the concept of coaching – modeling personal and professional excellence.

BRYANT McCANN NAMED TO THE 2009 RAWLINGS-NAIA GOLD GLOVE TEAM
May 29--Senior Bryant McCann from Omaha, Neb. has been named to the 2009 Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove Team this season as a pitcher. McCann, is the first GPAC player to be honored with this award as well as the first Hastings College baseball player to be named to the NAIA Gold Glove Team. In his four years in the starting rotation, McCann did not commit one year as a pitcher for the Broncos. Bryant was the only pitcher named to the team. McCann was honored earlier this month by the GPAC by making first team All-Conference. Hastings finished the year 26-33 overall and 16-8 in the conference as they placed second in the regular season.

LEIGH JOCHIMSEN AND ALEX KUCERA NAMED 2009 DAKTRONICS-NAIA BASEBALL SCHOLAR-ATHLETES
May 29---Seniors Leigh Jochimsen and Alex Kucera have been named to the 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes list for the their efforts in the classroom. Jochimsen, a senior from Papillion, Neb. and Kucera, a senior from Omaha, Neb. are being honored for the second year in a row to the NAIA Scholar-Athlete List. Each recipient is required to be a junior or above in academic standing, in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year, have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating school and have been certified as eligible on the varsity roster.

BRONCOS PLACE SEVEN ON GPAC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS/JIM BOEVE NAMED GPAC HAUFF/MID-AMERICA SPORTS COACH OF THE YEAR
May 4---The Hastings College baseball team capped off a terrific conference season by having seven members placed on the GPAC All-Conference teams. Head Coach Jim Boeve was also named GPAC Hauff/Mid-America Sports Coach-of-the-Year as he led the Broncos to a 2nd place finish after they were projected to finish eighth in the preseason coaches poll. Hastings finished the conference season with a 16-8 record.
Leading the way for the Broncos all year was Joe Jeanjaquet as Jeanjaquet was placed on the 1st team as a catcher. Jeanjaquet, a senior from Parker, Colorado, helped guide the Broncos to a second place finish and a great run in the GPAC Tournament. Also joining Jeanjaquet on the 1st team was senior pitcher Bryant McCann from Omaha, Neb. McCann finished the year with eight wins as he struck out over fifty-five batters over the course of the season. He also led Hastings to a 1-0 win over Morningside College in the opening round of the GPAC Tournament where he threw a three-hit shutout.
A.J. Clark from Colorado Springs, Colo. was named 2nd team All-Conference as a pitcher as he held an ERA of 3.64 in over sixty innings of work while throwing seven complete games.
Hastings placed four members on the GPAC Honorable-Mention list this year: Leigh Jochimsen, Alex Kucera, A.J. Clark and Chris Denny. Clark was placed on the Honorable-Mention list as a shortstop as he charted fifty-two hits and thirty-one RBI's. Senior pitcher Alex Kucera found himself with five wins on the season and pitching five complete games. Kucera from Omaha, Neb. was third on the team in strikeouts with thirty-seven. Chris Denny led the Broncos with a .357 batting average as he had thirty-two hits and thirty-six RBI's as a leftfielder. Senior Leigh Jochimsen from Bellevue, Neb. was the Broncos defensive specialist in the outfield as he had a number of spectacular catches during the season including one in the GPAC Tournament. Jochimsen ended the season with thirty-nine hits and twenty-nine RBI's.
The 3rd annual Gold Glove team was announced as the Broncos had two representatives on the team. They included seniors Pat Morey and Bryant McCann. Morey, the senior from Omaha, Neb. was honored for his defensive abilities at 3rd base. Bryant McCann was named to the team for his efforts as a pitcher. McCann was the only pitcher named to the team.
Hastings finished the year 26-33 on the season and 16-8 in the conference. The Broncos had the #2 seed in the GPAC Tournament as they finished in second place.
