Hastings College Track and Field 2009 - 2010
BRONCOS COMPETE AT NWU AND USD Feb. 8 -- The Hastings College track and field teams split the squads to compete at the Nebraska Wesleyan Triangular and the John Dalton Invite at University of South Dakota.
Top female performances at Nebraska Wesleyan included Christine Fisher in the pole vault (1st - 10' 4"), Justine Dethlefs in the triple jump (1st - 35' 3"), Brittany Hoins in the weight throw (1st - 51' 7"), Katie Moller in the high jump (2nd - 5' 3.25"), Abby Griffith in the shot put (2nd - 41' 6.5"), Jess Bruner in the pole vault (3rd - 8' 10.25"), Erika Rumbeck in the long jump (3rd - 16' 7.75"), Hoins in the shot put (3rd - 41' 3.25"), and Holly Bishop in the weight throw (3rd - 47' 6.5").
Top male performances at Nebraska Wesleyan included double winner Scott Fritz in the weight throw (57' 0.75") and the shot put (52' 6.5"), Will Keesee in the high jump (1st - 6' 9"), Creighton Brei in the long jump (2nd - 21' 3.5") and the triple jump (2nd - 45' 3"), Cody Weber in the weight throw (2nd - 56' 1.75"), and Jake Holmquist in the pole vault (3rd - 13' 11.25").
Top-ten female performances at USD included Alyssa Farmer in the mile (3rd - 5:18), Cammi Collier in the 3K (5th - 11:07), the 4x400 relay team of Jenalle Japhet, Jamie Volz, Sam Harding, and Farmer (5th - 4:16), Volz in the 400 (8th - 1:02), and Japhet in the 400 (9th - 1:02).
Top-ten male performances at USD included Ronnie Taylor in the 60 (2nd - 7.06) and the 200 (3rd - 22.67), Matt Cooper in the 60 (3rd - 7.12) and the 200 (4th - 22.68), the 4x400 relay team of Taylor, Tye Duncan, Ryan Sillman, and Cooper (3rd - 3:26), Olen King in the 800 (4th - 2:01), Will Smith in the 60 (5th - 7.16), James Goodenberger in the mile (6th - 4:36), Sillman in the 400 (7th - 52.5), Jason Arizmendi in the 3K (9th - 9:11), and James Hanseling in the mile (10th - 4:45).
The squads will be split again next weekend, running on Friday, February 12th at UNK and Saturday, February 13th at Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa.

SCOTT FRITZ NAMED GPAC FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Feb. 5 -- Hastings College senior Scott Fritz is the athlete of the week. Fritz, a senior from Cozad, Nebraska, won the weight throw and placed third in the shot put at the Doane Scott Nisely Memorial Classic. He measured 60' 10.5" in the weight throw which ranks him 2nd in the NAIA. In the shot put, he had a toss of 53' 4.5" whick ranks 3rd in the NAIA. This is the second time this season Fritz has been named the GPAC athlete of the week.

FARMER, FRITZ, & MOELLER BRING HOME GOLD AT SCOTT NISELY CLASSIC Feb. 1 -- The Hastings College track and field teams competed Saturday at the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic hosted by Doane College. Alyssa Farmer, Scott Fritz, and Katie Moeller came home with first place finishes in the 1000 (3:05) by Farmer, in the weight throw (60' 10.5") by Fritz, and in the high jump (5' 5") by Moeller. All marks surpassed NAIA standards for the national meet.
Additional place winners for the women were Jenalle Japhet in the 600 (2nd - 1:42), Christine Fisher in the pole vault (2nd - 10' 10"), Cammi Collier in the 3000 (3rd - 11:20), and Brittany Hoins in the weight throw (3rd - 53' 4.5").
On the men's side, Ronnie Taylor ran a provisonally qualifying time of 6.49 to place 3rd in the 55m dash. Will Keesee placed 3rd in the high jump with an automatic qualifying height of 6' 8". Fritz was a double place-winner on the day as he came in 3rd at 53' 4.5" in the shot put. Fritz has already automatically qualified in both his events.
Next week the squad will split for cometitions at the Nebraska Wesleyan Triagular and at the John Dalton Invite hosted by University of South Dakota. Both meets will be held Saturday, February 6th.

BRONCOS COMPETE AT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL Jan. 24 -- The Hastings College track and field team competed Friday at the Nebraska Wesleyan University Invitational, hosted on the campus of the University of Nebraska. Taking home first place at the meet and a NAIA national meet provisional qualifying time of 49.67 in the 400 was sophomore Ronnie Taylor.
Top ten finishers for the women's team included Alyssa Farmer in the mile (2nd - 5:16), Katie Moeller in the high jump (2nd - 5' 3.25"), Farmer in the 1000 (3rd - 3:07), Jenalle Japhet in the 600 (4th - 1:41), the 4x400 relay team of Japhet, Taylor Anderson, Jasmine Foreman, and Jamie Volz (5th - 4:12), Abby Griffith in the shop put (5th - 41' 8"), Justine Dethlefs in the triple jump (6th - 33' 1"), Christine Fisher in the pole vault (6th - 10' 8"), Brittany Hoins in the shot put (8th - 40' 10.5"), the 4x400 'B' relay team of Angie Wyatt, Selina Barry, Sam Harding, and Page Williamson (9th - 4:24), Taylor Anderson in the 400 (9th - 1:02), Mandy Higgins in the triple jump (9th - 31' 1.75"), Maddy Peavy in the 600 (10th - 1:44), and placing 11th with a provisional mark was Holly Bishop in the weight throw (48' 0.5").
For the men's team, top ten finishers included Ronnie Taylor in the 400 (1st - 49.67 - provisional mark), Scott Fritz in the weight throw (2nd - 57'), Will Smith in the 200 (4th - 22.47 - provisional mark), Gabe Wickham in the weight throw (5th - 54' 5.25"), Fritz in the shot put (5th - 50' 2.75"), the 4x400 relay team of Smith, Taylor, Ryan Sillman, and Olen King (5th - 3:26), Cody Weber in the weight throw (6th - 53' 5.75"), Matt Cooper in the 200 (7th - 22.71), Weber in the shop put (8th - 48'), Creighton Brei in the triple jump (8th - 44' 8"), Smith in the 60m dash (9th - 7.06), and King in the 800 (9th - 2:00).
The Broncos will be in action next week at the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic hosted by Doane College on Saturday, January 30th.

FRITZ GPAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jan. 21 -- Hastings College athlete Scott Fritz is the field athlete of the week. Fritz, a senior from Cozad, Nebraska, won both the weight throw and shop put at the Doane Field Plus Open. In the weight throw he posted a mark of 58' 6.75" and in the shot a mark of 51' 1.75". His weight throw mark is the best in the GPAC. Both marks qualify him automatically fr the NAIA National Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee.

BRONCOS COMPETE AT UNL AND DOANE MEETS Jan. 18 -- The Hastings College track and field team split into two squads this past weekend to compete in the Holiday Inn Invite hosted by University of Nebraska and the Doane Fields Meet in Crete, Nebraska.
The male throwers showed their dominance once again by improving their NAIA automatic qualifying marks from a week ago. They were led by senior Scott Fritz with two first place finishes, throwing the weight 58' 6.75" and the shot put 51' 1.75". Gabe Wickham placed 3rd and improved his weight throw to 5' 9.25". Cody Weber also improved his mark in the weight throw to 53' 10.25".
Joining them at the NAIA national meet will be Will Keessee in the high jump as he cleared the provisional mark of 6' 6". Katie Moeller cleared the NAIA automatic mark of 5' 5" in the high jump after making the provisional mark last week. Christine Fisher was the final national qualifier as she cleared the provisional mark of 10' 10" in the pole vault. The top runner at Doane Fields was Geena Lovell in the 200, running 28.43 for 2nd place. Alyssa Farmer's performance at the UNL meet provisionally qualified her for the national meet in the 1000, running 3:04.8 to place 3rd overall. Other top 20 finishes at the UNL meet were Creighton Brei in the long jump (7th - 21' 2.75"), Jake Holmquist in the pole vault (9th - 13' 1.5"), Olen King in the 800 (12th - 2:00.8), the women's 4x400 relay of Taylor Anderson, Jenalle Japhet, Jamie Volz, and Jasmine Foreman (12th - 4:15.8), Jenalle Japhet in the 600 yard (13th - 1:31.8), Will Smith in the 200 (17th - 22.81), Maddy Peavy in the 600 yard (17th - 1:33) and the 800 (18th - 2:33), the men's 4x400 realy of Ryan Sillman, Ronnie Taylor, Will Smith, and Creighton Brei (18th - 3:31), Olen King in the 600 yard (20th - 1:17), Ronnie Taylor in the 200 (20th - 23.12), and Jessica Cunningham in the 5000 (20th - 20:09).
The Broncos will be in action on Friday, January 22nd at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational. Running will be at NWU (unseeded) and UNL (seeded).

ALYSSA FARMER NAMED GPAC TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jan. 14 -- Hastings College junior, Alyssa Farmer, has been named Great Plains Athletic Conference track athlete of the week. The Hastings native won the mile and 1000 at the Doane Ward Haylett Meet held January 9. Farmer won the mile in 5:26 and the 1000 in 3:11. This is her first year participating in indoor track and field.

BRONCOS OUT TO FAST START AT WARD HAYLETT MEET Jan. 10 -- The Hastings College track and field teams started the 2010 season at the Ward Haylett Meet on Saturday, hosted by Doane College. Five NAIA National qualifying marks were met at the meet, as well as three provisional qualifying marks.
The automatic marks were made by senior Scott Fritz (weight throw), sophomore Gabe Wickham (weight throw), sophomore Cody Weber (weight throw), and junior Brittany Hoins (weight throw and shot put). Achieving provisional marks were Fritz (shot put), junior Garrett Wickham (weight throw), and junior Katie Moeller (high jump).
The women's team was led by junior Alyssa Farmer with two first place finishes in the 1000, running 3:11, and in the mile, running 5:25. Other first place finishes were Hoins in the weight throw (52' 11.5") and the 4x4 team of Taylor Anderson, Jenalle Japhet, Maddy Peavy, and Jasmine Foreman in 4:31.
Second place finishes for the women were by Japhet in the 400 (63.2), Heidi Lee in the 3000 (11:54), Moeller in the high jump (5' 3.75"), Justine Dethlefs in the long jump (16' 10.5"), and the 4x4 'B' team of Kazia Marshall, Dethlefs, Geena Lovell, and Angie Wyatt in 4:42. Third place finishes were achieved by Peavy in the 600 (1:48) and mile (6:25), Amber Himmelberg in the 3000 (11:54), Selina Barry in the 55 hurdles (9.52), Christine Fisher in the pole vault (10' 4"), and Dethlefts in the triple jump (33' 6").
For the men's team, Creighton Brei picked up two first place finishes in the long jump (22' 4.25") and the triple jump (45' 3.5"). Also placing first was Scott Fritz in the weight throw (58' 5.75").
Second place finishes were achieved by Olen King in the 600 (1:27) and Fritz in the shot put (49' 11.25").
Athletes finishing third included Matt Cooper in the 200 (23.72), Ryan Sillman in the 600 (1:38), James Goodenberger in the 3000 (9:35), Ronnie Taylor in the long jump (21' 5.5"), Mark Wong in the triple jump (43' 8"), Gabe Wickham in the weight throw (53'), and the 4x4 relay team of Taylor, Sillman, Jake Holmquist, and Brei in 3:43.
The Broncos will compete next at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Holiday Inn Open and the Doane Fields Meet.

17 SCHOLAR ATHLETES NAMED FROM HASTINGS COLLEGE May 26 — The NAIA has announced the 2008-2009 Daktronics-NAIA Men's and Women's Track and Field Scholar-Athletes. 17 Bronco student athletes were named to the teams. They are Kay Brokemeier, Beth Hartman, Kelli Hoaglund, Jenalle Japhet, Julie Kaup, Erika Rumbeck, Jamie Williams, Jamie Volz, Scott Fritz, Brad Gamble, James Goodenberger, James Hanseling, Jeff Hartman, Olen King, Ben Kober, Josh Pinkelman, and Kyle Smith. To receive this honor, the student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically and have a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Congratulations to these fine student-athletes.
