Lady Broncos Lose in Conference Tournament
Nov. 10-  The women's soccer team travelled to Mitchell, SD today in the semifinals of the GPAC Conference Tournament.  The Lady Broncos fought hard and went into the intermission tied 1-1.  But the Tigers turned out to be too much for the Lady Broncos.  The Tigers scored two second half goals to win 3-1.  Hastings lone goal was scored by senior Jesse Herse on a penalty kick.  The team finshed 13-4-3 on the year and fourth in the conference.  Congratulations to the 2009 team for a spectacular season. 

Jessica Carlson Named GPAC Offensive Player of the Week
Nov. 10- Hastings forward Jessica Carlson is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Carlson, a sophomore from Papillion, Nebraska, scored the lone goal in the 98th minute in the GPAC Tournament Quarterfinals as the Broncos defeated Sioux Falls 1-0.  The Broncos concluded their season today in the GPAC Semifinals with a 3-1 loss at number one seed Dakota Wesleyan.  Hastings ended the season at 13-4-3.

All Conference Team Selected- Kotschwar Named Co-Defensive Player of the Year
Nov. 10-  The 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference Women's Soccer All-Conference team has been selected.  The first and second teams consist of 13 members each.  Hastings own Allison Kotschwar was named Co-Defensive player of the year.  Kotschwar, a senior from Omaha, NE was the main cog in a defense that lead the conference in goals allowed (8), goals against average (.43), and an amazing 11 shutouts in 18 games. Other first team selections were forward Jessica Carlson (Papillion, NE), and midfielder Jesse Herse (Omaha, NE).  Second team selections included midfielder Casey Freisen (Greenwood Village, CO) and keeper Megan Kreifels (Lincoln, NE).  The Lady Broncos finished 4th in the regular season conference standings and look to continue to advance in the conference tournament today when they play #1 seed Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, SD.

Lady Broncos Win a Thriller
Nov. 5-  The Hastings women's soccer team won a thriller tonight in overtime beating University of Sioux Falls 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.  The game went back and forth all night.  Hastings was aggressive and pressed forward while the Cougars sat back and looked to counter off the Lady Broncos attacks.  The two teams battled and both had goals that looked to be good but were called back due to off sides.  Ninety minutes was not enough for this match.  Finally in the 98th minute, the Lady Broncos broke through.  Davonne Holland dribbled the ball down the sideline and crossed the ball to the front of the net.  Jessica Carlson was able to get her head on it and barely put it by the keeper for the winning goal.  The Lady Broncos now advance to play the #1 seeded Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Tuesday, November 10th in Mitchell.  Last time the two teams met, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.       

Jesse Herse Named GPAC Offensive Player of the Week
Nov. 3-- Hastings midfielder Jesse Herse is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Herse, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, netted a hat trick in the Broncos season finale win over Morningside 7-1.  The Broncos are 12-3-3 on the season and ended the GPAC season at 7-2-3.  Hastings will host Sioux Falls on Thursday in GPAC quarterfinal round play at 7PM.

Lady Broncos Receive #4 Seed
Oct. 31.  The conference tournament seedings have come out, and Hastings earned the #4 seed.  They will play University of Sioux Falls, the #5 seed, on Thursday, November 5th at 7:00 pm in Hastings. USF finished the season with a 10-7-1 record and a 7-4-1 record in the conference.  Last time the two teams played, the Lady Broncos won 3-0 in Hastings.  Dakota Wesleyan received the top seed in the tournament.  For the complete release, click here.

Lady Broncos Win Big on Senior Day
Oct. 31- For the seniors, it was a heck of day as the Lady Broncos defeated Morningside 7-1.  The game started very slow and neither team was very aggressive in the scoring third of the field, but in the 18th minute things began to change for the home team.  Davonne Holland began the scoring berrage when Allison Kotschwar played a free kick into the box that was deflected by Sara Wenzl that Holland finished for a 1-0 lead.  Then in the 32nd minute, Jessica Carlson made sevaral nice moves as she dribbled through much of the Mustangs defense and finished with a near post goal.  Eight minutes later, Lauren Slaughter finished a nice cross from Taylor Voycheske.  The scoring began very quickly after the intermission.  In the 53rd minute, Wenzl settled a cross from Casey Friesen that she was able to turn and put in the back of the goal.  Next, Morningside got on the board with an unassisted goal by Jamie Swoteck to make it 4-1.  Then it became the Jess Herse show.  Herse scored the remaining three goals (73rd, 74th, 81st) for a hat trick on her senior day.  The last two goals were assists from fellow senior, Allison Kotschwar.  The Lady Broncos anxiously wait to see who they will play in the first round of the conference tournament.

Lady Broncos Dominate Briar Cliff
Oct. 25- The Lady Broncos travelled to Sioux City on Saturday and matched up against Briar Cliff.  After a disappointing loss to Doane last week, the team bounced back in a big way and came away with an easy 7-0 win.  The scoring occurred early and often as all seven goals were scored within the first 55 minutes of the game.  Davonne Holland got things started in the 4th minute off an assist from Allison Kotschwar.  Just seven minutes later, Jesse Herse scored off an assist from Holland.  Then it became the Carlson show.  Jessica Carlson scored the next 3 goals in the 17th, 22nd, and 28th minute with two assists from Kotschwar and an assist from Wenzl.  This made the score 5-0.  The Lady Broncos finished the game with goals from Wenzl (49th) and Kotschwar (55th).  Several of the players had big games, but none bigger than Kotschwar.  She had 3 assists and a goal.  The team will finish up conference play on Saturday against Morningside in Hastings.   

Week #10 Preview

Lady Broncos Lose a Tough Match to Doane 1-0
Oct. 21-  The Lady Broncos faced Doane College on a wet evening and came away with a disappointing 1-0 loss.  Hastings out shot the Tigers 22-13 but could not capitalize on any of the shots.  With just 3 minutes remaining in the match, the Tiger's Samantha Exstrom scored the winning goal.  The Lady Broncos will now travel to Sioux City on Saturday to face Briar Cliff.

Lady Broncos get a 1-1 Tie vs. Dordt
Oct. 17- The Lady Broncos played very well tonight and battled the preseason conference favorite to a 1-1 tie.  Dordt got on the board first when Rindy De Nooy scored an unassisted goal in the 34th minute.  Then, shortly after the intermission, the Lady Broncos connected on the tying goal.  In the 50th minute, Casey Friesen played a beautiful cross to Jessica Carlson who finished off the goal for her 10th goal of the season, which ranks her second in the conference.  The teams continued to battle, but through the next 60 minutes, neither team could score.  The Lady Broncos out shot the Defenders 18-3.  Next, the team travels to Crete on Wednesday to take on Doane.    

Week #9 Preview

The Soccer Team Defeats Dana 4-0
Oct. 14- The Lady Broncos defeated Dana tonight 4-0 on a cool misty evening.  The scoring started in the 49th minute when Megan Rerucha played a long pass into the Dana defense and Megan Michel finished off the pass for the first goal of the night.  Michel was not done.  Eleven minutes later she finished off a ball that was crossed and deflected to her that she put in the back of the goal.  Then 40 seconds later Jesse Herse played a through pass to Casey Friesen that she finished for her first goal of the year.  Magdelena Cortez then finished off the scoring when she connected on a 45 yard free kick that bounced over the keeper,s hands.  The Lady Broncos will now take on Dordt College who are defending conference champs Saturday in Hastings.       

Lady Broncos Dominate Mount Marty
Oct. 10- The first game of the week saw the Lady Broncos beat Mount Marty 11-1

in Yankton, SD. The scoring started early and continued throughout the match. Jesse Herse started the scoring in the 6th minute finishing a corner kick from Casey Friesen. Six minutes later, Herse got her second goal of the night with an assist from Allison Kotschwar. In the 18th minute, Shannon Buttner got involved with her 3rd goal of theyear with an assist from Herse. Sara Wenzl got into the action with a goal in the 29

th minute. Then, Davonne Holland owned the 45th minute. She scored two goal in one minute to make the score 6-0. Mount Marty got their lone goal also in the 45th minute. Kotschwar made it 7-1 in the 48th minute. Jessica Carlson got two goals in the 51st and 57th minute, and then the scoring finished up with goals by goalie Megan Kriefels and Wenzl’s second goal of the night.  The Lady Broncos now take on the preseason favorite in the conference, Dordt College here in Hastings on Saturday.



Week #8 Preview
Oct. 9--  The Lady Broncos have two important conference games this week as they travel to Mount Marty and then Dana travels to Hastings.  For more, read the weekly preview.

Lady Broncos Lose First Conference Game 2-0

Oct. 6th-  The Lady Broncos lost their first conference game this evening to Concordia 2-0.  The team out shot the Bulldogs 22- 10 but could not find the goal.  Mallorie Blanck scored in the 57th minute and Carolyn Chrzan scored in the 74th minute for the Bulldogs.  Hastings will travel to Mount Marty Saturday.     


Women Beat USF 3-0
Oct. 3rd- The women's soccer team played a tough University of Sioux Falls team and beat them 3-0. This was the first loss for the Cougars in the conference. Sara Wenzl scored her first goal of the game in the 35th minute. Jesse Herse placed a nice through pass to Wenzl who finished off the goal. Wenzl was busy again in the 77th minute. Jessica Carlson crossed the ball and Wenzl finished off her busy night for her second goal of the night and her 3rd and 4th goal of the season. The Lady Broncos got a security goal in the 88th minute. Megan Michel scored her 2nd goal of the season wth an assist from Herse which was her second on the night and number 5 and 6 on the season. The team will take on Concordia on Tuesday in Seward.

Megan Kriefels Name GPAC Defensive Player of the Week
Sept 29-
Hastings keeper Megan Kreifels is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Kreifels, a junior from Lincoln, Nebraska, faced 14 shots on the week and allowed no goals as the Broncos went 2-0-1. Hastings had a 1-0 conference win against Midland Lutheran on the road and battled Dakota Wesleyan to a 0-0 tie in Mitchell, South Dakota, on Saturday. The Broncos are now 7-1-2.

The Women's Soccer Team Ties DWU 0-0
Sept 26-- The women's soccer team travelled to Mitchell, SD and played a tough Dakota Wesleyan team to a 0-0 tie in 2 OT. The Lady Broncos had several chances to score but could not finish any of them. The defense continued it's strong play as it collected it's 8th shutout of the year. The team now lloks forward to playing at home Saturday against USF.

The Lady Broncos Beat York 5-0
Sept. 25-- The women's soccer team played back to back days and responded well. They defeated York College last night 5-0 with big games from Jesse Herse and Taylor Voycheske. Jessica Carlson started the scoring in the 8th minute for her 7th goal of the year. Then Herse scored her first of two goals on the night in the 14th minute. Her second goal was scored in the 50th minute and both were assisted by Casey Friesen. Voycheske ended the scoring with her first and second goal on the year in the 75th minute and 85th minute. The team will travel to Mitchell, SD to take on Dakota Wesleyan Saturday.

Women's Soccer Team Gets 2 Wins this Week

Sept 24-- The women's soccer team beat Northwestern and Midland this week and look to beat York and Dakota Wesleyan next week. For more information, read the weekly preview.

Soccer Team Beats Midland 1-0
Sept. 24-- The women's soccer team continued their winning ways beating Midland Lutheran on Wednesday 1-0. The match was very even but the Lady Broncos were able to get a goal in the 44th minute. Sara Wenzl held the ball against three defenders and made an unselfish pass to Jesse Herse who finished perfectly for her 4th goal of the season. The defense continued to hold strong and complete their 6th shutout in 8 games. The team is back in action tonight against York.

Soccer team dominates northwestern
Sept. 19-- The women's soccer team dominated the red raiders with a 3-0 win. Allison Kotschwar got things started with an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute. It didn't take the Lady Broncos long to get the second goal. Just 7 minutes later, Megan Mikel scored an unassisted goal. Then in the 67th minute, Davonne Holland received a long pass from Allison Kotschwar and she found the back of the net. The Lady Broncos outshot the Red Raiders 13-1 and held them to 0 shots. The team travels to Fremont on Wednesday to take on Midland Lutheran.

Women tie nebraska Wesleyan
Sept. 16-- The conference season began for the women's soccer team with a disappointing tie with Nebraska Wesleyan. The Lady Broncos appeared a little sluggish and could never get a shot to the back of the net. The Lady Broncos out shot Nebraska Wesleyan 9-1 but could not capitalize on any of the shots. The defense again played well and only allowed one shot on goal. The team is back in action on Saturday against Northwestern College here in Hastings.

Week #4 Preview
Sept. 11- The women's soccer team had a busy week last week. Now they get some time off and do not play again until September 16th at home. For more information, see the week #4 preview.

JESSE HERSE NAME GPAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sept. 8th-- Hastings midfielder Jesse Herse is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Herse, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, netted two goals and added one assist as the Broncos went 2-1 on the week. Hastings defeated NW Oklahoma State and San Diego Christian and lost against Embry Riddle (Arizona). The Broncos are 3-1 on the season.



WOMEN'S SOCCER BEATS JAMESTOWN 6-0
Sept. 7-- After playing last Wednesday and two this weekend the women's soccer team was back on the pitch again today. After getting back from Arizona last night, the Lady Broncos beat Jamestown College today 6-0. They started fast when Jesse Herse made a nice pass to Shannon Buttner who finished in the 3rd minute. The team looked a little sluggish the rest of the half and could not score, even with a strong wind at their back. Coach Flogaites woke them up at half time and the Lady Broncos came out fired up. The first minute of the second half saw Jessica Carlson scored her first of three goals (46th, 51st, 81st min.) on the day. She was assisted by Jesse Herse on her first goal. Carlson's second goal was created by a nice cross by Casey Freisen that Carlson cut back and blasted the ball into the net. In the 52nd minute, Davonne Holland scored her first career goal as Allison Kotschwar made a beautiful through pass that Davonne settled quickly and knocked it by the keeper. Jesse Herse then got in the scoring action as she scored her third goal on the season. She placed a 20 yard shot just over the outreached hands of the keeper. The scoring finished on Carlson's third goal of the day when her and Jessalyn Barton played a very nice give and go combination. The defense again did a nice job as Tenaya Howdson made her first start at keeper. The women's team now gets a much needed rest and does not play again until September 16th when they host Nebraska Wesleyan.



WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES A TOUGH BATTLE
Sept 5th-- The women's soccer team had to deal with a long trip and the elements as they lost their first game of the season to Embry-Riddle 1-0. On a rainy night, the Eagles scored off a corner kick in the 15th minute, and though the Lady Broncos pressed in the second half, they could not tie it up. The team will be back in action on Monday, September 7th back in Hastings against Jamestown at noon.

WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS 2-0
Sept. 5-- The women's soccer team beat San Diego Christian last night in Prescott, AZ 2-0. The goals were scored by Jessica Carlson and Jesse Herse. Megan Kriefels had a complete game shutout. The Lady Broncos play Embry- Riddle today for the final match of their Arizona trip.

WEEK 3 PREVIEW
Sept. 3rd-- The Lady Broncos started the season very well with two good wins. Now they head to Arizona for two early season tests. For further information, read the Week 3 preview.

LADY BRONCOS ROLL PAST NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA ST.

Sept. 3-- The women's soccer team starts the season well as they get their second win in as many tries. The Lady Broncos started out fast as Jessica Carlson scored in the 4th minute. They had many more chances in the first half but could not finish. The second half was a different story. The Lady Broncos came out fast and finished this time. Shannon Buttner started the scoring in the 59th minute with an assist from Casey Friesen. Then in the 77th minute, Sara Wenzl scored her second goal of the season. Herse was very busy all day but especially in this two minute span because she assisted the goal to Wenzl and then one minute later scored herself. Friesen assisted Herse's goal which was her second one of the day. The Lady Broncos finished with 18 shots. The defense was outstanding all day as the Rangers had zero shots. The women's soccer team now heads to Arizona to face San Diego Christian on Friday, September 4th and Embry- Riddle on Saturday, September 5th.

WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM GET FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON.
Aug. 29th- The Lady Broncos win the season opener with a score of 2-1 over Baker University. Alix Schiraldi scored the first goal of the match for Baker giving them a 1-0 lead. Hastings tied the game in the 71st minute when Jesse Herse made a nice through pass to Jessica Carlson who then tapped it by the keeper as she was tackled aggressively . They quickly took the lead in the 77th minute with a nice goal by Sara Wenzl, assisted by Casey Friesen. Goalkeeper Megan Kreifels had 2 saves in the game. The Lady Broncos take the field again September 2nd here in Hastings.

Aug. 27-- The Lady Broncos officially start their season Saturday. They then have a quick turn around and play on September 2nd, again at home. For a preview of week #2, click here.

LADY BRONCOS LOOK TO BUILD ON THEIR 2ND PLACE FINISH.
August 20--
With the start of fall camp on August 12th, the Lady Broncos have set their sights on a conference championship and a return trip to the national playoffs. It all begins September29th when Hastings College hosts Baker at 1:00. For more on the upcoming season, read the week #1 preview.

HASTINGS COLLEGE LADY BRONCOS SELECTED 2ND IN THE GPAC
August 11--
The Hastings College Women, after posting a 14-6-1 record in 2008, has been selected by the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) coaches' to finish second in the preseason poll. Dordt College was selected first, receiving 138 points and 9 first place votes. The Lady Broncos with 135 points and 3 first place votes was second followed by Midland Lutheran (115 pts, 1 first place vote), Doane (110 pts), and Dana (100 pts).

The Lady Broncos look to build off a very strong 2008 campaign. They finished second in conference and earned a berth to the national playoffs.

FALL CAMP SET TO BEGIN
August 10--
The Hasting's College women's soccer team begins their 2009 season August 12th with the start of fall camp. The Lady Broncos are coming off a 14-6-1 record and look to build on a second place finish and a national playoff berth. The team begins this pursuit with a home match on August 29th against Baker (KS) at 1:00.
