EICHER, FARMER NAMED TO 2009 GPAC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Nov. 11 -- Hastings College cross country runners Bryan Eicher and Alyssa Farmer were named to the 2009 GPAC All-Conference team. Eicher, a senior from Broomfield, CO, is receiving the honor for the third straight year. In her first year of cross country competition at the collegiate level, Farmer ran well enough to make the women's GPAC All-Conference team. Eicher and Farmer, along with sophomore Cammi Collier, have qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country Championships November 21st in Vancouver, Washington.

MEN, WOMEN FINISH 6th AT GPAC CHAMPIONSHIPS, 3 INDIVIDUALS QUALIFY FOR NATIONAL MEET
Nov. 9 -- The Broncos men's and women's cross country teams were in action this weekend at the GPAC Championships hosted by Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, NE. Both teams finished 6th in the 13 team field, with the men a mere one point out of 5th and 8 points out of 4th. Bryan Eicher (SR, Broomfield, CO) led the way for the Broncos with an 8th place finish in a time of 25:37. This time was good enough for 7th fastest all-time at HC and Eicher currently holds 5 of the top 17 times in school history. His time was also the fastest ever for a Bronco runner at a conference meet, breaking the previous top time of 26:01, set by Clint Hedges in 1984. Eicher's effort qualified him for the NAIA National Cross Country Championship for the third straight year.

The women were led by Alyssa Farmer (JR, Hastings, NE) and Cammi Collier (SO, Loveland, CO) as they paced the Broncos in times of 19:09 and 19:20, placing 14th and 19th overall. Farmer's time was the 9th fastest of a Bronco runner at a conference meet. She also holds the 16th fastest time in school history. Both girls qualified for the NAIA National Championship as well, which will be held November 21 in Vancouver, Washington.

CROSS COUNTRY TO COMPETE IN CONFERENCE MEET THIS WEEKEND
Nov. 4-  The 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Cross Country Championships are this Saturday, November 7, in Fremont, Nebraska. The meet, hosted by Midland Lutheran College, will be run at the Valley View Golf Course with the women's 5K race starting at 10:30 AM and the men's 8K race to follow at 11:15 AM. All 13 GPAC schools will participate in the event which will feature approximately 100 runners per race.

Nebraska Wesleyan will look to defend their 2008 conference titles in both the women's and men's division. Last year the Prairie Wolf women scored 65 points in claiming the team title, with Concordia placing second with 89 points. On the men's side Nebraska Wesleyan totaled 38 points last fall and placed first ahead of second place Concordia who totaled 39 points. The 2008 GPAC Championships were hosted by Hastings College.

A new individual champion will be crowned on the women's side this year as Dordt's Jen Kempers has graduated. Kempers won the women's race last year with a time of 17:51.85. 2008 Runner-up Jackie Spelts from Nebraska Wesleyan returns this year after posting a time of 18:19.89 last fall. Morningside's Kara Nelson, who placed third last year, is also back in the field this year and ran a time of 18:25.35 in the 2008 championship.

On the men's side Zach Meineke from Concordia returns to defend his 2008 title. Last year he ran a time of 25:29.49 at Hastings. Luka Thor, also from Concordia, is back in the field after a second place finish last year with a time of 25:43.02. Thor won the 2006 GPAC Individual Championship. 
 
The top two teams from each race (excluding Nebraska Wesleyan who participates in NCAA DIII for postseason) will advance to the NAIA National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver, Washington on Saturday, November 21. The top seven individual runners outside those two teams will also advance, provided they place 20th or better in the meet.

BRONCOS RUN AT SOUTHWESTERN INVITE
The cross country team from Hastings College competed Saturday at the Mid-States Classic hosted by Southwestern College in Kansas. Bryan Eicher ran the 10th fastest time in school history with 25:50 to finish 8th. The Broncos will be in action November 7th at the GPAC Championships hosted by Midland Lutheran College.

BRIAN EICHER NAMED GPAC RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Oct. 15-  Hastings’ Bryan Eicher is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week.  Eicher, a senior from Broomfield, Colorado, was the top GPAC finisher on Saturday at the Briar Cliff Invite.  His fourth place finish time was 25:58.85.  The Briar Cliff meet was run at the Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, South Dakota.

EICHER, FARMER LEAD WAY FOR BRONCOS AT BRIAR CLIFF

Senior Bryan Eicher (Broomfield, CO) and Junior Alyssa Farmer (Hastings, NE) led the way for the Bronco Cross Country Teams with all-time top performances as they competed at the Briar Cliff Invitational on October 10th. Eicher ran the 15th fastest time in school history as he clocked 25:58 for the 8K course. The effort was good enough for 4th place in the field of 143 runners. Other scoring runners were Rudy Mignon (26:42), James Goodenberger (27:07), James Hanseling (27:21), and Scott McLaughlin (27:26). Dave Dierking (27:37) and Jake Braunberger (27:53) finished out the top 7. The men finished 4th out of 12 teams.

 

Alyssa Farmer finished the 5K course 5th out of 136 runners in a time of 18:41. This time ties for 16th all-time in school history with former Bronco All-Americans Linda Colburn and Nicole DeRoin. Also scoring for the Broncos were Cammi Collier (19:46), Heidi Lee (19:47), Jordan Broberg (20:44), and Jessica Cunningham (20:45). Rounding out the top 7 was Maddy Peavy (21:12) and Brittany Mosel (22:02). The women finished 8th out of 12 teams.

 

The Broncos are in action this week Saturday, October 17th as they host the Hastings Bronco Invitational at Elks Country Club. The women’s race is scheduled for 10:00 with the men’s race to follow. Come out and cheer on the Broncos!




BRONCO CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS 3RD AT DEAN WHITE INVITE
Sept. 26 -- The Bronco Cross Country teams were in action today at the Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane College. The men's team, who is receiving votes in the national poll, finished third behind Doane (#14) and Dana (RV). The men were only 1 point out of second place. Leading the way for the Broncos was senior Bryan Eicher (Broomfield, CO) who finished 4th over the 8K course in 27:02. Junior Dave Dierking (Broken Bow, NE) was the other top-10 finisher as he placed 9th in 27:19.

The women also finished 3rd behind Morningside (19th) and Doane (RV). The women were lead by junior Alyssa Farmer (Hastings, NE) who traversed the 5K course in 19:55. The effort placed her 3rd overall. Other top performers were Cammi Collier (Loveland, CO) and Heidi Lee (Johnstown, CO) as they ran 20:40 which was good enough for 13th and 14th place respectively.

Coach Clay had the following comments regarding the meet, "We took some good steps this weekend towards achieving our season goals. We came off a great week of practice and our athlete's hard work showed during the meet. We still have a lot of work to do, but this weekend put us on the right path." The Broncos are next in action in two weeks, October 10th, at the Briar Cliff Invite.

The Bronco men and women’s cross country teams were in action again at the Woody Greeno Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska. The field was comprised of various Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and JUCO colleges. The men’s team finished 21st of 26 teams and the women finished 20th of 27. The team will be in action this weekend September 26 at the Dean White Invitational in Crete, NE.

XC COMPETES AT THE UNK TIME TRIAL
Sept 5th--  The men and women's cross country team competed for the first time of the year at the University of Nebraska- Kearney Time Trial.  The team used the meet as a way to prepare for the difficult upcoming season.  Coach Clay was pleased with the outcome and felt like the team performed better than last year's first performance.  The team finished 3rd with Dave Dierking as the top finisher for the men and Cammi Collier as the top finisher for the women.
