Bronco Wrestler, Jameon Rush, Shoots for 100 Wins
Feb. 8-Jameon Rush, a junior from Clay Center, KS, will be going for his 100th win on Thursday when the wrestling team duals against Concordia.  Rush has been a steady force for the 3 year program as he has an overall record of 99-48 and currently sits at 30-8 and ranked #8 in the nation at 174 lbs.  He has not lost to an NAIA wrestler all season and was one of 10 NAIA wrestlers selected to wrestle in an All Star match in Dallas this winter.  He also has the team record for the most wins in a career which he improves with every win.  Rush was the 2010 GPAC Champion at 174 lbs and was selected 1st Team All Conference and was selected to the All Conference Team in his first two years.  At the National level, Rush has all ready qualified for this year’s tournament, but did qualify both as a freshman and sophomore going 2-2 in both tournaments.  Possibly, the most impressive talent of Rush is his 4.0 GPA and his creativity creating the majority of the Hastings Athletic posters.      

Hastings Wrestles at Difficult Briar Cliff Open
Feb. 6-  The Hastings Wrestling team turn around a day after competing against Morningside to wrestle in the Briar Cliff Open.  The field included 18 teams, including seven of the eight GPAC teams which support the sport; Briar Cliff, Dana, Dakota Wesleyan, Hastings, Morningside, Northwestern and Sioux Falls. The field also included Augustana, Bacone, Buena Vista, Dickinson State, Grand View, Iowa State, Minnesota West, Oklahoma City, Southwest Minnesota State, Wayne State and York. Several of these teams are nationally-ranked including; No. 8 Dana, No. 9 Grand View, No. 11 Dickinson State, No. 13 Oklahoma City, No. 17 Morningside and No. 19 Northwestern. Hastings and Dakota Wesleyan were each receiving votes in the latest NAIA ratings. Brad Dodge was a bright spot for the Broncos reaching the wrestle back semifinals, losing to Clint Whitley from USF.  For complete results click on links below.

Hastings Struggles against Morningside
Feb. 6-  The Hastings College wrestling team travelled to Sioux City to take on Morningside last night and got beat 40-3.  The lone bright spot for the Broncos was Jameon Rush, ranked 6th in the Nation, winning his match 6-2 for his 30th win on the season and his 99th win in his career.  It was the only win on the evening for Hastings.  The complete results are listed below.

Jameon Rush Selected 1st Team All Conference
Feb.3- Jameon Rush, a junior from Clay Center, Kansas was selected 1st Team All Conference.  Rush wrestles at 174 lbs and is currently 29-8 on the season.  Brad Cusatis, a sophomore from Beatrice, NE and Jarrod Wiens, a Junior from Beatrice, NE both received Honorable Mention All Conference.  All three wrestlers have qualified for the National Tournament.  For the complete release, click here. 

Wrestling Team Places 5th at GPAC Tournament
Jan. 30- The wrestling team travelled to Sioux City, IA today to compete in the GPAC Tournament.  The Broncos ended with 40.5 points to place 5th and was just 1 point from 4th place Dakota Wesleyan.  174 lbs Jameon Rush was the lone conference champion winning by fall over David Carter.  Drew Sorenson beat teammate Derek Miller in the consolation match at 184 lbs placing 3rd and 4th.  Last, Jarrod Weins took 4th place at 125 lbs.  Dana was the team champion with 136 points followed by Morningside with 99 points.  For final brackets click here.  The team scores are listed below.

Wreslting Team Competes at York College
Jan. 23-  The wrestling team travelled to York Saturday for the York Invite.  The top finishers for the team were Clint Steele with a 4th place finish at 165 lbs, William Vincent finished 4th at 174 lbs, and Brad Dodge finished 5th at 197 lbs.  The team will now prepare for the GPAC Conference Tournament next week at Morningside College.  For complete results, click here.

Jameon Rush Competes at American Airlines All-Star Challenge
Jan. 16.-  Jameon Rush a junior from Clay Center, KS was selected to wrestle at the American Airlines All-Star Challenge in Grand Prairie, TX today.  He was one of ten NAIA athletes selected to wrestle against athletes from the National Collegiate Wrestling Association.  Rush won his 174 lbs match beating Kevin Bacci from West Chester University 4-3 in 3 overtimes.  The NAIA beat the NCWA 39-3.  For the complete release, click here.

Wrestlers Lose to Dana 49-3
Jan. 16- The wrestlers travelled to Blair, NE to take on Dana, one of the top programs in the country tonight.  The Vikings were too much for the Broncos and won 49-3.  Results to be posted at a later date.

Wrestlers Dualed with Dakota Wesleyan Tonight and Won 30-20
Jan. 13-  The wrestling team travelled to O'Neil, NE tonight to host Dakota Wesleyan in a dual.  The Broncos won 30-20.  The complete results are listed below.

Wrestlers have a Good Showing at the Quality Inn Open
Jan. 8-  The Hastings College wrestling team hosted the Quality Inn Open today in Hastings.  The team produced three 2nd place finishes and one champion.  Jarrod Weins at 125 lbs, Jameon Rush at 174 lbs, and Michael Byrd at 197 all were runner ups.  Brad Cusatis was the one champion of the day at 125 lbs.  For the complete brackets, click here.

Wrestlers Lose to Baker 27-12
Jan. 8-  The Broncos took on Baker tonight in a dual and lost 27-12.  The winners for the Broncos included Brad Cusatis who won by fall, Jameon Rush, and Michael Byrd.  The Broncos will host the Quality Inn Open tomorrow all day.

Hastings Back in Action after the Holidays
Jan. 2-  The wrestling team competed in the Dana Open today for the first open of the New Year.  The meet consisted of Division I, Division II and NAIA programs and UNO was the top squad with 7 individual champions.  The highlight for the Broncos was Jameon Rush's 3rd place finish at 174 lbs.  Hastings will be back in action at home against Baker on the 8th of January.  For complete results, click here.   

Hastings Competes at Loper Open
Dec. 12-  The Hastings College Wrestling team travelled to Kearney to compete in the unscored Loper Open.  The Open consisted of team from Division I programs UNL, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.  The highlights of the meet included Brad Cusatis at 149 and Jameon Rush at 174.  Cusatis finished in 5th place and his first loss was to the eventual champion in his weight class.  Rush also wrestled well to finish in 5th.  The Broncos take a break for semester tests and the holidays and will not compete again until January 2nd at Dana.  For complete brackets, click here.

Wrestlers Beat Concordia 27-24

Dec. 10-  The Hastings College Wrestling team defeated Concordia by a small margin tonight 27-24.  The winners for Hastings include Kris Stenhaug by fall, Nick Howell by OT decision, Jameon Rush by fall, Derek Miller by forfeit, and Justin Boyce by forfeit.

The wrestlers will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Kearney to compete in the Loper Open.  Complete results are below

Wrestlers Travel to Fort Hays Kansas to Compete in Bob Smith Open
Dec. 5- The Hastings College Wrestling team travelled to Fort Hays today to compete in the Bob Smith Open. It was a very competitive tournament as wrestlers from Division I, Division II, and NAIA schools participated.

Wrestlers Defeat York College Tonight 39-17

Nov. 19- The Broncos competed in their home opener tonight in a dual against York College and won easily 39-17. It was an exciting night as every match was decided by a fall except for two. William Vincent won a 7-2 decision and Brad Cusatis won due to York not having a wrestler at Cusatid weight. The results are as follows.

Wrestlers Compete at the Dakota Wesleyan Invite
Nov. 14- The Broncos travelled to Mitchell, SD to compete in their first invite of the year. The bright spot was Jameon Rush who won at 174 lbs. The team competes again Thursday in Hastings against York College. For complete results, click here.

Wrestlers Compete at Baker Open
Nov. 9- The wrestling team took a couple wrestlers to Baldwin City, KS to compete in the Baker Open. The highlight from the weekend was William Vincent, a freshman from Owosso, MI, qualifying for nationals with a 6th place finish, the first wrestler to qualify for the team. The Broncos will travel to Mitchell on Saturday, November 14th for the Dakota Wesleyan Open. For further results, click here.

3rd Annual HC Wrestling 3 person golf scramble

August 14th--This three-person golf scramble will be held at Southern Hills Golf Course in Hastings, NE on September 19th with a shotgun start at 1 PM. This is an opportunity to meet and support the Hastings College Wrestling Team. Each 3 person group will buy a college wrestler as their fourth player, hope he is good!! There will be pin prizes, door prizes and prizes for the top score (possibly flighted depending on number of teams). It will be $50 per player and we will put teams together if necessary if you do not have 3 people for a team. This will include 18 holes, cart, and a meal after the round.

BRONCOS RANK 2ND IN THE NATION ACADEMICALLY BY NWCA
March 30---
The Hastings College wrestling team has been honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) by placing 2nd in the nation academically amongst NAIA wrestling schools. The Broncos turned in a grade point average of 3.20 which placed them second, behind the University of Great Falls who claimed top finish. Great Falls had a cumulative grade point average of 3.24. Four Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) team also placed in the top ten, the other three besides Hastings College were: Dakota Wesleyan (5th), Morningside College (7th) and the University of Sioux Falls (8th). The Broncos also placed three members on the NWCA All-Academic Team. They are Jameon Rush (Clay Center, Kansas), Robert Rentfro (Spring, Texas) and Justin Ferguson (Lincoln, Neb.) Rush a sophomore, currently carries a 4.0 grad point average as does teammate Justin Ferguson. Both carry a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Robert Rentfro, a sophomore from Spring, Texas is currently carrying a 3.59 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
