MATTHEW KERN AND WIL HOTZ NAMED 2009 DAKTRONICS-NAIA MEN'S TENNIS SCHOLAR-ATHLETES
May 29---
Matthew Kern and Wil Hotz have been named to the 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Tennis Scholar-Athletes list for the their efforts in the classroom this season.  Kern, a junior from Hastings, Neb. and Hotz, a senior from Grand Island, Neb.  have succeeded both in the classroom and on the tennis courts.  Hotz and Kern and two of eighty-seven men's tennis players across the country to be honored with this award.  Each recipient must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have junior academic status to qualify.

TYLER BENSON NAMED HAUFF/MID-AMERICA SPORTS GPAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR/BRONCOS PLACE SIX ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
May 15---
The Hastings College men's tennis team placed six members on the GPAC All-Conference teams, highlighted by Tyler Benson being named the Hauff/Mid-America Sports GPAC Men's Tennis Player-of-the-Year.  Benson, a sophomore from Kearney, Neb. went undefeated as the Broncos #2 singles player during conference play.  He helped guide the Broncos to a fourth place finish in the conference.  Benson was named 1st team All-Conference in both singles and doubles.  His doubles partner Wil Hotz, a senior from Grand Island, Neb. was also named 1st team All-Conference in both singles and doubles as he was the Broncos #1 singles player all year and partnered with Benson as the Broncos #1 doubles team.  The third member of the Broncos team to be named 1st team All-Conference was Travis Bronson, a senior from Hastings, Neb.  Bronson was the Broncos #3 singles player all year.  Travis was also named honored in doubles as he and his partner Grant Nagaki were placed on GPAC Honorable-Mention for their doubles play.  The two were the Broncos #2 doubles team throughout the year.  Grant Nagaki was also placed on the Honorable-Mention list as a singles player as he was the Broncos #4 singles player.  Chris Ondrey and Andrew Huber were placed on the GPAC Honorable-Mention list both as singles and doubles players.  The pair were Honorable-Mention as the Broncos #3 doubles pair while they were both placed on the Honorable-Mention list as singles players.  Ondrey was the #5 singles player while Huber was the #6 singles player for the Broncos.  Hastings finished the season with an overall record of 9-11 and 5-2 in the conference, good enough for a 4th place finish in the GPAC.

May 2---
The Hastings College men's tennis team had their season come to an end as they fell in a tight match to the Univ. of Sioux Falls 5-4 Saturday afternoon in Fremont, Neb. at the Fremont High School Tennis Courts.  Wil Hotz would grab two victories for the Broncos as he won his #1 Singles and #1 Doubles matches on the day.

The Hastings College men's tennis team defeated Morningside College 7-2 to advance to the GPAC Tournament semi-finals.  The Broncos will take on the Univ. of Sioux Falls on Saturday, May 2 at the Fremont High School Tennis Courts in Fremont, Neb. starting at 9 a.m.

GPAC CHAMPIONSHIP MEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
April 29---
The GPAC Championship schedule for men's tennis has been announced.  The men's tennis tournament will be played in Fremont, Neb. on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 at the Fremont High School Tennis Courts.  University of Sioux Falls has received the number one seed and Nebraska Wesleyan received the number two seed in the tournament.  Both teams have first round byes.  The Broncos are the #4 seed and will take on #5 seed Morningside College at 10 a.m.  The winner will face the #1 seed, Sioux Falls Cougars on Saturday, May 2 at 9 a.m.  The Championship game will be on Saturday at 2 p.m.  The complete schedule is listed below:

The Hastings College men's tennis team finished up the regular season with a dominating performance over Doane College Friday afternoon in Hastings, Neb. 8-1.  Hastings is now 8-10 overall and 5-2 in the conference.  The Broncos will be back in action on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 as they compete in the GPAC Championships in Fremont, Neb.  Times are yet to be annonced.

TYLER BENSON NAMED HAUFF/MID-AMERICA SPORTS MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
April 23---
Tyler Benson has been named Hauff/Mid-America Sports Men's Tennis Player-of-the-week.  Benson, a sophomore from Kearney, Neb. posted a combined 6-0 record at the number two singles and number one doubles spot for the Broncos on the week.  Benson helped the Broncos go 3-0 during the week and improve to 7-9 overall.

April 21---
The Hastings College men's tennis teams lost by the narrowest of margins Tuesday afternoon in Kearney, Neb. as the Broncos fell 5-4 to the Lopers of the Univ. of Nebraska-Kearney.  Hastings is now 7-9 on the season and remains 5-2 in the conference.  Tyler Benson picked up two wins for the Broncos in singles and doubles.  Travis Bronson and Chris Ondrey also picked up wins in their singles matches while Wil Hotz won his doubles match with Benson.  The Broncos will be back in action on Thursday, April 23 as they take on the Univ. of Nebraska-Omaha in Seward, Neb. with match time set for 12:30 p.m.

BRONCOS GO 2-0 ON THE WEEKEND/KNOCK OFF UNIV. OF SIOUX FALLS
April 20---
The Hastings College men's tennis team went 2-0 on the weekend as they defeated Morningside College and the Univ. of Sioux Falls.  The Broncos upset win over Sioux Falls, gives the Cougars their first conference loss of the season.  Hastings defeated Morningside College 8-1 and upset the Univ. of Sioux Falls 5-4.  Both matches took place in Omaha, Neb.  Tyler Benson, the Broncos #2 singles player capped off a incredible conference season as he finished undefeated in the GPAC by winning his last two singles matches over Morningside and Sioux Falls.  With the sweep over the weekend, the Broncos improve to 7-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference.  Hastings will be back in action on Tuesday, April 21 as they travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on the Univ. of Nebraska-Kearney in non-conference action starting at 1 p.m.

The Hastings College men's tennis team put in a dominating performance Thursday afternoon against Midland Lutheran College as the Broncos defeated the Warriors 9-0 in Hastings, Neb.  With the win, Hastings is now 3-2 in the conference and 5-8 overall.  The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 as they head to Omaha, Neb. to take on two GPAC foes, Morningside College and the Univ. of Sioux Falls.  Their first match will be against the Mustangs of Morningside College at 10 a.m.  They will face USF at 2 p.m.

The Hastings College men's tennis team had their weekend matches with Baker University, Kansas Wesleyan and Bethany College cancelled due to poor weather conditions.  Hastings will be back in action on Thursday, April 2 when they travel to Crete, Neb. to take on Doane College in GPAC action with start time slated for 3:30 p.m.




BRONCO MEN'S TENNIS FALLS 8-1 TO MESA STATE COLLEGE
March 17---
The Hastings College men's tennis team finished their Colorado trip with an 8-1 loss to the hands of Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo.  The Broncos are now 2-6 on the season and will resume action on Saturday, March 28 when they travel to Salina, Kansas to take on three opponents.  The Broncos will face off with Kansas Wesleyan at 10 a.m. followed by Bethany College and Baker University.

March 16---
The Hastings College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision Monday afternoon to Metro State in Denver, Colo.  Hastings also fell 9-0 to CSU-Pueblo earlier in the day.  The Broncos fall to 2-5 on the season and will take on Mesa State College on Tuesday, March 17 with start time set for 2:30 p.m.  The matches will be played in Grand Junction, Colo.

BRONCOS ROLL OVER COLORADO CHRISTIAN 8-1

The Hastings College men's tennis team picked up their first win in Colorado and their second win of the season as they defeated Colorado Christian 8-1 in Colorado Springs, Colo.  The Broncos are now 2-4 on the season and will face Metro State in Denver, Colo.  Results will be posted as soon as they become available.

The Hastings College men's tennis team traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo. to face off against Washington College of Maryland.  Hastings fell 8-1.  The Broncos are now 1-3 on the season.

COMRON YAZDGERDI NAMED HEAD MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH AT HASTINGS COLLEGE
May 15---Hastings College Athletic Director Fran Hummel has announced the hiring of Comron Yazdgerdi has Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Hastings College.  The Pueblo, Colo. native is a 2005 graduate of Hastings College while majoring in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Coaching.  He is currently the Head Tennis Coach at Scottsbluff High School in western Nebraska.  Comron was named 1st Team All-Conference in 2005 and garnered 2nd Team Honors in 2004.  Yazdgerdi takes over for Lee Wigert who stepped down to concentrate on his position of Professor of Psychology at Hastings College.
