For some, working on campus will provide the spending money they need. Others will work off campus and in the summer to help finance their education. In Career Services we see part-time and summer employment as vehicles for students to build “going to work” skills such as timeliness, taking direction from supervisors, and dressing appropriately; and transferable skills that will be useful for them after college, such as computer skills, customer service abilities, cooperation, and adaptability. Following are resources that may be useful for you as you pursue part-time and summer jobs.

Career Services will help you identify potential resources and employers and will also be able to provide guidance as you apply for these jobs. | Quickie Jobs |
Students sign up in Career Services to receive notices of “Quickie Jobs” by email. “Quickie Jobs” serve the needs of students who are unable to hold regular, part-time jobs and the needs of employers and individuals that have short-term work assignments, such as lawn care, moving, painting, etc. Career Services sends notices to the “quickie” student list. Students follow up with employers/individuals to secure short-term jobs. Register by contacting Laura Matthias at lmatthias@hastings.edu or at ext. 7400. |
| Local Part-Time Jobs and Seasonal Employment |
Career Services posts local part-time vacancies on the JobZone. Those listings are also advertised on a bulletin board outside of Career Services in HSU. JobZone Local, Regional and National Vacancies - JobZone is sponsored by HC Career Services and 8 other member colleges in the Nebraska College Recruiting Consortium; listings include opportunities for part-time jobs, internships, seasonal jobs and full-time employment
You will also find seasonal opportunities posted to the Nebraska College Recruiting Consortium’s JobZone. The JobZone pools the resources of nine Nebraska colleges and universities to offer seasonal jobs, internships and full-time employment. Nebraska in the name reflects the membership, not the location of the jobs posted on the site. The national NACELink Extended Job Search is also available from the NCRC site. Another resource to use when searching for a part-time or summer job in Hastings is the Workforce Development Center. Visit with an employment representative at 2727 W. 2nd Street, Suite 338. |
| Career Library Resources |
The Career Library within the Career Services office suite has books and video resources that provide information about resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and networking. Additional resource directories provide leads to summer jobs, including Summer Jobs in Britain, Summer Jobs in the USA, and collection notebooks with announcements from organizations across the county. |
| Internet Resources |
The Internet has many websites that list summer job opportunities. The options are almost unlimited. View the following sites as you consider summer options, but be sure to contact Career Services to discuss additional sources and strategies.
