Hastings College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and therefore, has a philosophy that matches the NAIA’s commitment to high standards and the principle that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of our total educational program.

Coach Kendrick Clay believes that the track and cross country programs should offer all student-athletes an environment that is conducive for them to reach their potential as an athlete and as a student. Performance in the classroom has shined, as demonstrated by many student-athletes being named NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes each year.

Athletic performance has also shined—with dozens of student athletes being national qualifiers, while more than 20 have been named NAIA All-Americans since his arrival at Hastings College. Performance in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), of which Hastings College is a member, has also been superior, with Hastings College teams consistently finishing near the top in meets. The GPAC consists of 11 private colleges and universities in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.

Coach Clay is a graduate of Hastings College, where he was a four-time national qualifier in cross country and track. Before coming to Hastings College in 2003, he served as head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach for three seasons at Central College, and served as the head cross country and track and field coach at Lindsey Wilson College for two years. Coach Clay was named the 2007 GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Men’s Coach of the Year.
