SEAC - History

Student Environmental Action CoalitionIn 2006, the Recycling Club of Hastings College was initiated in response to the interest of obtaining a large recycling bin for students. President Ellen Jorgenson worked with Woodwards disposal to make this vision a reality. What began mainly a recycling club quickly began dealing with many other types of sustainability issues around campus. In 2007, the name was changed to the Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC) in order to more accurately portray their mission. What began as a Recycling Club of 4 people is now a burgeoning 30 person organization.

Throughout the years, SEAC has continued to work to educate the student population as well as provide fun events. But SEAC is not just about the fun events and free tshirts. SEAC has been the driving force for the past 5 years for sustainability issues, gaining allies and forming connections across campus to achieve goals such as a trayless cafeteria and the formation of a campus Sustainability Committee. We look forward to our work in the years to come and hope to involve more students in our mission and education. Come to our meeting and find out what we are all about!
