Honoring Robert “Bobby” Gottsch (1954 - 2011)

Robert “Bobby” Gottsch was a difference maker in every area of his life. As a cattleman and agri-business leader, he developed enterprises spanning Nebraska, several other states, and Argentina, and his success led to his induction into the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame. As a philanthropist, he gave freely of his time and resources to numerous organizations, including Hastings College, which he served as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. And, as a family man, father of five, and devoted friend to many, he lived the values that became his legacy.

The Gottsch Family

Surrounded by family, Cindy Gottsch and her daughter hold the late
Bobby Gottsch’s Hastings College Athletic Hall of Fame plaque.

While a difference maker himself, Bobby was more interested in discovering and cultivating that quality in others than in seeking personal recognition.

A trustee at Hastings College for 16 years, Bobby championed, with his energy and investments, difference makers in athletics, business management, leadership, and entrepreneurship, as well as hardworking students of limited means but great potential. Hastings College awarded Bobby the President’s Award in 2010 and membership in the Athletic Hall of Fame, posthumously, in 2011.

Hastings College’s Difference Makers Campaign honors Bobby and creates a lasting tribute to the qualities he modeled daily: excellence, perseverance, loyalty, hard work, self-reliance, fiscal conservatism, and commitment to the values of rural Nebraska and the Midwest. The campaign focuses on strategic initiatives—scholarships, leadership, athletics, and campus quality—that reflect Bobby’s values and philanthropic priorities.

An Elkhorn, Nebraska native, Bobby was president of Gottsch Enterprises, Inc. and affiliated companies including cattle and swine operations, ranches, farming, real estate, and land development.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years Cindy (Mau) Gottsch and their children Matthew, Zachary, Jennifer, and Cheyenne Gottsch and Nicole Gottsch Jordening, as well as his brothers Brett, Barry, and Bill.
