About the Coalition

History of the Center

Hastings College Coalition for Great Plains Research began in 2010, the result of conversations among faculty for the need to construct a visible format that highlights and encourages research and teaching related to the region. The coalition format, an alliance of individuals sharing a common interest, is inherently inclusive, capitalizing on diverse talents across disciplines to expand knowledge and understanding of the Plains, both within and outside of its geographic parameters.

Resources available to the Coalition include Hastings College’s partnership with the Nebraska Visitors Center; a biological preserve on the Platte River located ten miles from campus, for educational programs, research collaboration, and special projects. At its core, The Hastings College Coalition for Great Plains Research is dedicated to the mission of the Liberal Arts, encouraging interdisciplinary research and teaching, and life-long learning. The commitment to exploring and understanding the natural and cultural aspects of our region, past and present, serves to help shape our vision for a sustainable future on the Plains.
