Greetings!

Thank you for your interest in the Hastings College Chapel. The Hastings College community meets in French Memorial Chapel for worship at 10 a.m. every Wednesday throughout the semester. To be sure that everyone on campus has the opportunity to worship in Chapel, no other campus activities are scheduled during this hour. The Chapel worship service is rooted in its Presbyterian heritage but open to all people of faith. Students, faculty, and staff – spanning the theological spectrum from conservative to liberal – find a welcome home in the Hastings College Chapel. The weekly format usually follows a "blended" style of worship, featuring at least one contemporary praise song and one traditional hymn. Recent speakers have included local pastors from the Baptist, Congregational, Episcopal, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Unitarian-Universalist, and Catholic traditions, as well as Christian leaders from throughout the United States and from as far away as Pakistan, Madagascar, South Africa, the Philippines and France.

Students participate in Chapel in a variety of ways. A Chapel Committee helps coordinate the worship services, and provides readers and greeters every week. Students regularly lead worship through music, either as soloists or as members of choirs and instrumental ensembles. Several times a year, students have the opportunity to preach in chapel, and the Chapel Committee sponsors an annual sermon contest.

The Chapel reaches out to the larger community as well. The Chapel sponsors several retreats each year – past retreats have been held at Westminster Woods in Lexington, Calvin Crest in Fremont, and the Leadership Center in Aurora. The Chapel Committee participates in local programs such as the CROP hunger walk and sponsors alternative spring break mission trips. New students are invited to the Chaplain's home for a Monday night Bible study throughout the fall.
