Counseling Services

The Office of Counseling Services (OCS) offers diverse, confidential assistance to all current students. It is our goal to help students learn to manage the stressors they encounter in the various aspects of their lives so that they may enjoy fully the Hastings College experience.

    Stephanie is a provisionally licensed mental health counselor. She holds a BS in psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a MA from Doane College. Stephanie is replacing Carole Sandeen and brings enthusiasm and energy to the Hastings College community. Stephanie's responsibilities will include part-time individual counseling, crisis intervention, and assisting in educational outreach and programs. She has special interests/knowledge in the areas of grief, self harming behavior and crisis intervention.

    Stephanie will be available for individual sessions, by appointment, at the Stone Student Health Center. To schedule an appointment you may contact her by e-mail at spershing@hastings.edu or by phone 402-461-7424.

Office hours are 8am - 4pm Monday through Friday. Please call for an appointment.

 

Counseling Services is located in the Stone Student Health Center (Campus Map) at 843 Turner Ave. on the Hastings College campus. Entrance may be made at either the east (main) or north doors.

  • Evening arrangements are made on a situational basis.
  • After hours emergencies are directed to call 911 or report to the hospital emergency room.
  • Individual counseling offered by appointment
  • Psycho educational groups available as requested
  • E-Counseling offered as needed and intended as a supplement to individual counseling
  • Campus-wide screening events focus on issues of substance abuse, eating disorders and mood disorders. both in-person and internet options are available.
  • Referrals to on and off campus services (psychiatric consults, medication management, nutritional services and specialty clinics)
  • Consultations as needed with faculty, staff and other service providers
  • Coordination of care with established care providers that the student may have
