Health Services
The Charles L. Stone Health Center provides health services under the direction of registered nurses. The College nurses are under the supervision of consulting physicians, covering broad fields of medical practice. The services of College nurses are available during posted hours of day and for emergency situations at other times for students registered for four or more hours. In case of illnesses in which the services of a physician are required, the nurse will assist the student in obtaining medical care.
The health fee covers all costs incurred while students are being treated by the nurses at the health center, including common remedies and medications recommended by the consulting physicians and administered by college nurses. Because of the low health fee, the College can assume no share of the charges made by physicians, dentists, or other specialists; nor for treatment or medications other than those administered or dispensed in the College health center. The College assumes no share of costs incurred while the student is under treatment in any hospital or dispensary other than the College health center.
Many college students, independently or through their families, carry health insurance policies. Hastings College urges students to subscribe to some health plan, the cost of which must be borne by the student.
Hastings College maintains student accident policies for all full-time students during the regular school year. Specific information regarding the policies is available in the Business Office.
S.H.A.C. (Student Health Advisory Council) is a student organization designed to link the health concerns of students with the college administration. PHIVE-O (Peer HIV Education Organization), CARE (College Acquaintance Rape Educators), and BACCHUS (a group promoting alcohol and other drug awareness and education) are supervised from this location. Contact the Health Center to join any of these groups.
