Why study History at Hastings College?
Don’t just study history - do history!
With professors actively engaged in diverse research projects and committed to classroom excellence, the Hastings College History Department helps you build a deeper understanding of the past, which impacts the present and, perhaps, your future! At the same time, you’ll develop sound communication and analytical skills – critical components for a successful and meaningful life. It’s a classic component of a true liberal arts experience.
Our versatile course offerings make a double major with Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, International Studies or Art possible within four years. Talk about opening doors to your future!
How You’ll Grow
Polish reading, writing, and discussion skills as you practice the historian’s craft. Through widely varied departmental offerings in terms of subject material and approach to the past, you’ll analyze primary sources, synthesize secondary sources and express ideas in written and oral form. Your senior seminar research project pulls all your experiences together into a presentation you may offer at the Missouri Valley History Conference or at a Phi Alpha Theta National History Honorary conference.
Internships with museums, congressional offices and churches have allowed recent students to do history in real-world situations.
