The Art Department offers majors in studio art, art history and art education. Studio majors may choose to specialize in such subjects as glassblowing, sculpture, ceramics, painting, printmaking, drawing, graphic design or photography.
Facilities include an eight hundred square foot art gallery, well-equipped printmaking and ceramics studios, a painting studio with natural Northern light, and the region's most sophisticated glassblowing studio.
The art gallery features about eight exhibitions per year, by students, by important regional artists and by nationally prominent artists. Each year several visiting artists and art historians lecture, demonstrate, exhibit and collaborate with our students and faculty. Past visiting artists have included James McGarrell, Dale Chihuly, Frank Gallo and Sheila Hicks. Past lecturers included Dr. Michael Coe (Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at Yale) and Glenn Lowry (Director of the Museum of Modern Art, New York).
Graduates from Hastings College have gone on to diverse careers in graphic design, education, scientific illustration, art therapy, animation and independent studio production.
