College-Community choral collaborations have a rich history at Hastings College dating to the 1800s. Productions of Handel's Messiah were first added to the repertoire in 1928; a combined chorus of 350 singers, local orchestral musicians, and players from the Omaha Symphony presented a full performance of the work. Even through the Great Depression and the Second World War, Messiah continued to be performed.

In celebration of the 125th anniversary year of Hastings College, the Department of Music presented the twenty-fourth in our acclaimed series of massed-choir productions of portions of Handel's Messiah. The performance featured nearly five hundred current, former, and future students; distinguished alumni and current faculty as choristers, soloists, and conductors; members of the Hastings Symphony Orchestra; and an audience of more than three thousand 'singing along' with the Hallelujah Chorus! For the first time, the performance was seen worldwide via a live webcast produced by the students and faculty of HC Media's HCTV6.
