Pursue Your Passion

Our Premier Choral Ensemble!

"It's like being in the All-State Choir every single day!" — a singer comments on membership in the ‘flagship’ mixed-voice ensemble of our renowned HC choral tradition.

It's true: since 1882 we’ve been singing America’s favorite songs of faith and laughter and love to world-wide acclaim. Discover our history.

Now picture yourself in pursuit of excellence: Membership in The Hastings College Choir is open to all enrolled HC students by audition (held during the first week of classes each semester). The choir meets daily for 50-minute rehearsals in the Fuhr Hall of Music, onstage in French Memorial Chapel, in the vaulted sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, or in the revitalized grandeur of the historic Masonic Center Theatre in downtown Hastings, all under the direction of current conductor, Fritz Mountford

The Hastings College Choir is One-of-a-Kind

As pioneers in the development of collegiate choral singing in America, our musical hallmark has always been a broad, eclectic repertoire. Do we sing historical masterworks? Yes we do. But we also sing folk songs and pop songs.

Do we sing sacred music? Yes, absolutely, in many languages, and from many traditions. But we also sing love songs and opera choruses and Broadway show tunes and world music – in short, anything we find to be beautiful or inspiring or challenging or just plain fun! We sing all together, or in small groups, or featuring our own student soloists. Hear us in concert.

The famous "sound" of The Hastings College Choir is a willing combination of individual voices and personalities that allows us to tailor our singing to perform five centuries of music with integrity and style. Do we sing a cappella? Yes, of course! But that is just one facet of our broad-based performing experience.

We also sing major choral-orchestral works with the Hastings Symphony Orchestra. And at First Presbyterian Church, we sing to the accompaniment of the acclaimed mid-century Austin organ that draws first-class players from around the country. The three-manual instrument consists of more than forty ranks with bells, trompette, and 2,821 speaking pipes.

If you've never heard us live in concert, you might be surprised to learn that most often the instrumentalists who accompany us in various combinations are our own multi-talented musicians who step down from their places as singers in the choir! Check out upcoming performances.

If all this sounds exciting, we would love for you to join us! Aspiring young musicians, incoming HC freshmen, and non-music majors have always played integral roles in our music making. For more, please feel free to join The Hastings College Choir on Facebook
