From the Director of Service Learning

Welcome to the Hastings College Center for Vocation, Faith & Service!
In our fragmented world - unless we pay deep attention - we can so easily lose sight of what matters most to us. The Center for Vocation, Faith & Service asks us to pay attention, to discern what matters most to our lives, and to use our hands and talents to work to make what we value most a reality in the world. We invite you to come to Hastings College to explore the call to listen to your heart and to learn how to act from your deepest sense of what is right and true.
Among the many opportunities that we offer are:
I am also happy that this position matches my own blend of vocational callings-as a cultural anthropologist, community minister, and religious studies scholar.
Come, say hello, and listen to your heart, soul, and mind as together we explore your path in life.
In faith,
The Reverend Dr. Jean Heriot
Director of Service Learning

In our fragmented world - unless we pay deep attention - we can so easily lose sight of what matters most to us. The Center for Vocation, Faith & Service asks us to pay attention, to discern what matters most to our lives, and to use our hands and talents to work to make what we value most a reality in the world. We invite you to come to Hastings College to explore the call to listen to your heart and to learn how to act from your deepest sense of what is right and true. Here, we encourage a culture that inspires students to identify their inner call and to listen to the voices of others who can help them identify their gifts and discover lives of meaning.
Among the many opportunities that we offer are:
- A J-Term (January term) experiential learning course that changes each year. For example, we have studied in Chicago, worked in West Virginia and served in Mexico.
- “Being, Doing, and Knowing,” a service learning course in the Spring term that combines voluntary student service to the community with academic and reflective models of learning.
- One-on-one vocational counseling.
I am also happy that this position matches my own blend of vocational callings-as a cultural anthropologist, community minister, and religious studies scholar.
Come, say hello, and listen to your heart, soul, and mind as together we explore your path in life.
In faith,
The Reverend Dr. Jean Heriot
