Altman Hall

A co-ed residence hall, built in the swinging 1960s, Altman never has a dull moment. With its friendly and fun residents, this dorm gives you a great opportunity to meet and befriend men and women involved in assorted campus activities.

Altman Hall, described by students as the “melting pot” of the campus, includes a kitchen, pool table, and two large lounge areas where students can gather and socialize.

“Altman Hall is super diverse and represents people from almost every activity on campus. Everyone gets along great, and it’s the perfect place to meet people who you normally wouldn't meet! Altman can be a tad chaotic at times, but that's what I enjoy the most. The spontaneity and adventures are always something I enjoy. There is almost always a good game of sand volleyball or ultimate Frisbee going on.

After the first big snow in Hastings, some friends and I went out and spent the whole afternoon outside. We built this huge fort and the workers who scoop the sidewalk even helped by piling more around it for us!”

Meet the Residence Director at Altman: Zac Osgood

Zac Osgood

History with Hastings College:

I earned my BA in 2003 and my MAT in 2006. I’ve been a coach for the HC Bronco Track and Field teams since I finished my undergraduate degree. My specialty is throwing (shot put, discus and weights).

How would you describe your dorm and its residents?

Altman has a good mix of students from everywhere.  It’s a little bit of everyone from all campus activities.

What is your favorite thing about HC?

The community here is great. You walk around campus and know all the students and professors.

What is your favorite thing to do in Hastings?

I enjoy playing in the parks with my kids.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I don’t have any hobbies. I spend most of my time coaching and enjoying time with my wife and kids.

What is your favorite movie of all-time?

Braveheart

When you have had roommates, what quality or trait did you most appreciate?

I appreciate cleanliness and respect for property.  I didn’t like roommates who thought everything in the room belonged to them and was there for their use.

If you could have any superpower as a residence director, what would it be?

I would want to know when people are lying.

People would be surprised to know that…

I am good at Monopoly.
