In most national advertising campaigns, you would never see the McDonald's logo printed in black and green, or typeset in a different font. You wouldn't catch Betty Crocker promoting its boxed goods using a chartreuse spoon. Why? Because the colors associated with these brand names are as much a part of the identity as the logo or tag line.
The same is true for Hastings College.
We have an official color scheme that helps identify us to prospective students, campus personnel, alumni and donors, and that differentiates us from our competitors. We don't change color schemes because we are tired of the same look. We keep the same look to be consistent.
To create a consistent look for publications, most include the official Hastings College crimson, black and gray. Most printers will be able to match these colors with the generally accepted Pantone Matching System (PMS).
- Hastings College Crimson is PMS 201
- The chapel icon of the logo is PMS Cool Gray #6
- To complement these colors, we use black.
The only other campus entity with an official color is the Vocation and Values Program (PMS 319).
Imprinted Items
When ordering imprinted items, such as mugs, clothing or pens, it is often difficult to match the Hastings College crimson color exactly. In these instances, we prefer to err on the side of more red and less purple. Items that are listed as maroon or burgundy often contain too much purple to be close to the official color. Items listed as crimson, cardinal, wine or red usually come much closer to matching.
When in doubt, contact the Office of Marketing and Communications.
Banners
The Office of Marketing and Communications, in some instances, has identified certain items or products considered to be the "official" color. Companies we have worked with to choose this color include:
- Beyke Signs in Hastings, for banners
- Maximum Promotions in Sioux Falls, S.D., for banners
Cornhusker Press and Vaughans Printers in Hastings are also familiar with Hastings College's printing guidelines. Their staffs are able to assist you in choosing the correct colors and fonts.
Fonts
The official fonts of most publications are Avenir and Adobe Garamond.
